How to Master Your Mindset, Monday

Last week, my head was cloudy heading into one of my BJJ classes.

Yet, I knew that I would have clarity on the issue that was bugging me by the end of the class.

The physical movement and the learning of new skills makes new connections fire in your brain. Combine that with the endorphins and growth factors that are produced and that enter your brain when you physically move and your mind will light up light a fireworks display on the 4th of July.

Anyways, I was stressing about a position we need to fill on the team at Newell Strength and then I realized in class that the day before I met Devon, my wife, I had no idea she existed.

Nor did I know she would be the one that I married.

‘Chance encounters’ can happen at any moment and key relationships and people can come into your life in the blink of an eye.

I was able to ‘re-frame’ my line of thought for the day and my whole attitude followed suit.

Reframe and move. Move and reframe.

Sitting is Slowly Killing You

One of my best friend’s was over a few weekends ago and he was saying that in his new job, he sits almost exclusively from 9-5.

And unfortunately, that is all too common.  It’s one of the main things i hear from new clients and friends all the time.

If you have a job that you sit at most of the time, try this….

Make a goal for the month of June to do 45, ten minute walks.  Yup, that means some days you will have to do 2.

You can do it first thing in the morning, before or after lunch or whenever you need a mental break.

Walking is great for staying young and lowering stress hormones.

You Won’t Believe What Was On My Windshield

About two and a half weeks ago, I went out to get in the truck to head for a conditioning workout before my Tuesday morning networking meeting over in Flemington.

There was some dew out and about so I put the windshield wipers on before backing up the driveway.

And to my surprise, shyt got smeared all across the windshield.

And it wasn’t bird shyt.  It was some kind of bigger animal, my guess is a racoon.  You see, I had accidentally left a bag of garbage in the bed that I meant to throw in the trash can the night before.

Anyhow, I had to get out the hose and clean the windshield.

Now, that could have been a ‘stub your toe getting out of bed’ scenario or it could have been something to laugh about.

I always believe that in most situations if we are going to look back on something later and laught about it, why not just laugh about it in the here and now?

Think about it, it’s just a matter of reframing what has happened to you.

Plus, I like to laugh.

Your Fear is an Illusion

I remember six and a half years ago when I had just handed in my letter of resignation from teaching.

I had to do a lot of mental work to overcome the fears that were telling me I was making a mistake.

But it was within that journey that I realized that all fear is an illusion because it’s based in future based thought.  (Unless you are literally being hunted by a tiger, lion or giant grizzly bear!)

In today’s episode, that is one of the five things I have to share with you.  We all have a mission in life and one of my mine is to help people see through their fear and past their fear.

Memorial Day Magic

I remember exactly where I have been each of the past two years on this day.

I was at Bound Brook’s Memorial Day parade, watching my grandfather Leo being honored.

Leo is a WW2 vet, just like my other grandfather was.

And Leo’s father was a WW1 vet, an Italian immigrant that earned his citizenship by fighting for the U.S of A in WW1.

I am honored to be part of such a lineage and I am sure that we all have someone that has fought in a war or protected this country. Keep those special people in mind today.

It is the unofficial start of summer and we have so much to be grateful for.

Whatever changes you want to make in your life, remember that the path must start out from a point of happiness first. The destination is not happiness.

In fact, you’ll find that when you reach your destination, it’s really just a mile marker until the next destination. And that will be the case forever as long as you realize that happiness is the path.

Is Your Family Going to Support You?

I got a text the other day from one of the clients at Newell Strength that is the midst of an amazing transformation.

He’s down a ton of weight and shows no signs of letting up.

Anyhow, at dinner, he was eating and everyone was trying to give him advice on what to eat and what not to eat, despite the proof right before their eyes that he knew what he was doing.

Many times, family members are going to try and help by giving you their unwarranted advice.  Don’t get upset about it, just let it go.

However, other times, you are going to have family members that downright try to sabotage you.  Many times, it’s unconscious, because your success brings up feelings of bitterness in them (by the way, this goes for success in any area of life).

Again, let your actions do the talking.  Stay the course with a calm mind and when they eventually ask you for advice, feel free to share it with them.

As I already said, unwarranted advice is rejected and taken as criticism, so don’t be the one doing that.

Re: Pour Out Your Cup

GL is Down 100!!

Two Friday mornings ago as I was walking in for my 6AM workout, GL was on his way out.  He came over and told me the news that he had officially lost 100 pounds!!!

We gave each other a big hug and it made me light up!

When GL started the first time around, almost two years ago, you could say that he failed.  He had modest improvements in his very first Ripped Dads contest, but he hadn’t truly flipped the switch yet.

He came back 6 months later and now look at him!

There are ups and downs, he’d be the first one to tell you that.

But you know what his key to success is????

It’s to show up, day after day, even if you had a slip up the day prior and focus on winning that day.

100 pounds in unfathomable to most people and if you thought about it all at once, you’d have no shot at achieving it, your brain would be overwhelmed.

Inch by inch, it’s a cinch.
