I Just Got Off the Phone With….

20 minutes ago I just got off the phone with one of our new Ripped Dads member.  

He had heard about us through numerous people (thank you for that!) and has now decided that this was the time to take control of his health.  

He had previously been going to one of the big globo gyms, but he said himself, ‘You get what you pay for and I know my health has to have a premium on it’.  

If you can do it yourself, then great.

But if you haven’t gotten the results and its been years of trying, then now is the time to invest in yourself.  The nutrition and fitness that you invest in today will become who you are in the coming years.

No Shame In Saying That We are the Best

Some of you that read these daily emails have been members for a long time.

Some of you that read this are lurking, deciding if it’s something you’d like to try.  And I get it, trying something new is scary.

Just in case you need that final nudge to get you to pick up the phone….

When you are a part of Newell Strength:

Member Showcase: Leah McMorrow

In case the name looks familiar, Leah is the wife of last week’s member showcase, Brendan.  

Leah decided to come in for last year’s Fat Shredder contest and although she thought any place with weights or strength training might be intimidating, she soon found that was not the case at all.  

One of Leah’s favorite things about Newell Strength is that the Coaches Coach you where you are at, rather than a one size fits all approach that you’ll get at a lot of places.

Newell’s Rules #6-10

The year before Braxton was born, I was reading a book down in the OBX in which Brene Brown said, ‘Comparison is the thief of happiness’.

That was just one of those lines that I new would stick with me for the rest of my life.  It was simple and teachable.

Why It Didn’t Work For You…

I remember back when I was 17, first playing around with an extreme muscle building diet which was off the charts hard for me at the time.

I failed.

Listen, we have all tried and failed at fitness and nutrition before.

If you found the program too complex….

If you weren’t enjoying the process….

If you were dependant on a ‘fake expert’….

Then you were guaranteed to fail.

The answer is, then, to have a Coach or Coaches that’ll simplify the journey.

Remember, fitness isn’t supposed to be your life. It is supposed to enhance your life. If it’s wearing you out and making you feel overwhelmed, then you are on the wrong path.

The answer to overwhelm is: never more.

We Were The Only House….

A little more than 2 weeks ago, I was out with Braxton for our Wednesday night date in which we go to gymnastics and then I treat him to Wendy’s, when Devon called me to ask about the power.

It was acting up, everything was going on and off and we had no water since we have a well pump.

Brax and I finished up, and went home to inspect.  I called the power company and they informed me that they would be sending someone out.

They did, but not until 10 PM, at which point Devon and I were both sleeping.  Luckily, I was out on the couch waiting so it didn’t cause too much disturbance with Mateena and Dax.

He said the house had absolutely no power going to it at all and they would be sending another crew.  Sure enough, there was a crew out there digging until 3AM with a small backhoe up in the street.

Crew after crew came the next morning and afternoon until they had the problem fixed.  They were awesome in the way they handled it.

We were the only house on the block without power for about 24 hours.  We had two choices: we could be bitter about it or we could enjoy the story and experience as it unfolded.  We chose the latter.

When you lose something like weight or body fat, you can either be bitter because your inner child is throwing a tantrum or you can enjoy the process.  Which one do you think will get you more lasting results?

You see, you always have a choice and therefore, you always control the outcome.

Stressed Spelled Backwards

Four weeks ago, we started our biggest Fat Shredder contest to date.

And everyone is doing great, working hard and enjoying the process.

Yet, some people still haven’t connected the dots to stress, sleep and losing body fat.

Go ahead and spell stressed backwards right now.

Yup, it spells desserts.  And listen, Devon and I have a bigger sweet tooth than anyone.

We enjoy it when the time is right.  But if you find yourself constantly losing the battle at night with binge/stress eating, try working on your sleep.

Sleep remains the most powerful weapon against too much weight and body fat.

Information is rarely, if ever the problem, it’s our habits that get us in trouble.

See How Brendan Took Control of His Life

Brendan started training with us through the Ripped Dads contest a little over a year ago.

He had been inquiring for a while, like most people do, and decided, ‘What the heck, let me try it’.

Newell’s Rules 1-5

My Grandfather, Leo, tells me that I have always been a deep thinker.

And this means that I am always jotting down notes and connecting ideas.  (Think it, write it, take action….)

Being the thinker that I am, I decided a few months ago to write down 33 rules and tips that I have implemented in my life and I am sharing them with you, five per week.

In today’s episode, I go over rules one through five, some of which include: intense time pressure and the magic of thinking small.

Hurried is a Mindset

At Church 2 weeks ago, our Pastor was giving a sermon on stress and the effects it had on the human body.

What a great topic….

He said something that stuck with me: ‘Hurried is a mindset’.

This ties in perfectly about what I always believed in terms of ‘there is more to life than simply increasing its speed’.

If you are always hurried, you can never find joy.

If you are always hurried, time speeds up and there is more to hurry about.

If you think small, meaning in the moment, being where your feet are, then time slows down. Time expands.

If you are a hurried and rushed person, take stock and start to reflect on why you always feel the need to be hurried.
