Do What’s Right in Your Heart

In life, we all have different paths and therefore different realities.

You never know what another person’s journey is all about.

You can’t quite know for sure what they are supposed to do in this life, all you can do is continue to walk your path.

I did what was right in my heart, which drew others during the week to do what was right in their heart.

Much of the stuff was totally unpredictable when the week started, one of which was Assemblymen, Roy Frieman, stepping up to play an integral role in moving the issue forward and providing hope to so many people of New Jersey that were following our story.

Roy proceeded to get a lot of heat and flack from some in the political world for helping me and us, but he did what he felt was right in his heart.

I consider Roy a man of integrity and a friend.  And he can live in peace knowing that he followed his true north, his heart.

Don’t judge a person for following their gut, their heart, even if you don’t agree with it.  Just as no one should judge you for following your heart.

Remember, we aren’t physical beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

5 Great Things That Have Come About Since Quarantine Began

Apparently, one of the haters from yesterday’s email had his panties in a bunch a few weeks back because I said that the week was the most amazing week of my life.

This Tool Boy just couldn’t comprehend that I could be having an amazing week despite all the doom and gloom in the news.

Listen, life is always going to be full of death and destruction.  That’s how life is.  If you focus on it, you are going to live a miserable existence.  Struggling is mandatory, suffering is a choice.

With that, I feel terrible for anyone that lost a loved one due to the virus and I feel terrible for all those struggling because of the lockdowns.

But I bet you if you took the time and made a list, you’d be able to come up with some great things that have come out of this time.

Here are 5 of mine:

1- I made some great new with local and county authorities.

2- Newell Strength was able to give some normalcy back to our clients, staff and community.

3- I was able to help 25 clients totally transform their way of life and their minds through our first 2 Panda Challenge groups.

4- I made one great new friend that was with me every step of the way through the ordeals of the week of 5.18.

5- I was able to go into ‘battle’ with my grandfather, Leo, the WW2 vet I always speak of and we were able to speak on stage at an event down the shore.

The list could keep going, but the point is to have you realize that great things happen all the time, it’s up to you if you choose to focus on them.

You Must Focus on the 25%

A week and a half ago, after I got word that Governor Murphy was going to announce and be okay with the agreement they approached me with two days earlier, I made a video.

I rarely show tears of joy on video, but I couldn’t help it.

I wanted to share the news with the community and the people that were following the story.  Last I saw it had almost 15, 000 views and about a 100 shares, pretty amazing stuff.

Anyhow, friends and family informed me of the incoming haters that were trolling on the video.  But here’s what I told them…..

‘In life, 25% of the people are always going to love you, no matter what.  25% of people are going to strongly dislike you, even hate you, no matter what.  Then there are 25% that are going to not like you and then grow to like you and finally there are 25% that are going to like you and then not like you, for one reason or the other. I focus on the 25% that love me’.

I believe too many people are focused on the 75% that won’t go into battle with you anyhow.  They  fall victim to the fear of being judged by them and therefore, hated on.

I don’t pay those people any mind, I don’t read their comments, I simply ‘let go of my end of the rope’.  The funny thing is, they are giving me their most valuable thing; their time and attention.

Focus on your 25%, you may not agree on everything, but they will still always love you no matter what.

The Creator of Mind Map: Dax Moy

If you’ve been following the progression of Newell Strength over the years, then you would know the name, Dax Moy.

Dax is the mentor and man that has taught me Mind Map.  I was fortunate enough to be able to interview him for over an hour and man, did he drop some knowledge bombs!

I must warn you though, that the information in this podcast episode is highly valuable and it will change your life forever if you so choose.  Listen at your own risk:)

Can You Look Fear in the Eye?

Two weeks ago, I embarked on the craziest week of my life.

I am currently making it into a short 20 page book and possibly a documentary at some point in the next year.

Anyhow, before the week began, I received a text from a friend and client that said, ‘I admire what you are doing, looking fear right in the eye and not flinching….’

That was a jolt of energy that I needed on Sunday the 17th.

And look, your fears will be different than my fears and this lesson about fear isn’t just about how we opened up Newell Strength with the government’s approval (amazing how it came about).

The point is, when you feel fear, that usually means you are heading in the right direction.

The problem is, when you feel it, look it in the eye and then retreat back into your comfort zone, never having gone through the transformational process of going head first into the resistance you feel.

Lessons are everywhere, if you are paying attention.

P.S-We are ready to start forming and shaping the Shredder.  It will be different this year, but we are going to make it work.  We are taking x amount of teams, here’s the breakdown.  The contest begins on….

Do What You Said You Would Do

My workouts last week were mediocre at best.

As I was saying yesterday, I was drained from the entire week and all the unknowns.

But the mission was accomplished. I’ll be able to tell my grandchildren about it one day, hopefully….

All because I followed one principle, the one that it tattooed on my wrist: Do What You Said You Would Do. And that’s what I did.

There were multiple times I almost pulled out, backed off and shrank back.

But I didn’t, because everytime I look at my wrist I realize that the DWYSYWD isn’t just ink, it’s a creed.

How do You Match That?

The emotions I had on Monday and the drive in and when I got to Newell Strength on Monday the 18th are very hard to describe.

They were unmatched by anything else I had ever experienced.

Anyhow, my grandfather, Leo, WW2 veteran and my family, were here to support as well as a lot of friends and family from the community.

I continued doing interviews, one after the other until it was time to open at 4 PM.

At that time, we played the national anthem. It was awesome! Everyone stood at attention to the flags that many of the patrons had brought with them.

Then, the first clients entered for their workouts. At that moment, I knew that we had achieved what we had set out to do: we provided hope.

The Police officers provided me with my summons after notifying me that I was in violation of the Governor’s orders. They were awesome that day and throughout the week. I seriously couldn’t respect those guys more.

Going into Tuesday, day 2, was going to be a bit different because I knew that hoopla was going to die down (I am not much for attention, so to me that was a blessing).

It unfolded very similarly to day one.

Just to see the expressions on the clients faces and the joy of being back to normal somewhat was well worth it.

Which led me into Wednesday, which was probably the strangest day of my life. The morning started with me doing a radio interview on New Jersey’s biggest radio station, followed by a workout.

When I got home is when I started to hear some rumors about how the day would unfold, which Devon and I were prepared for.

And add to that the uncertainty about calls I was getting about there being some BIG protest at the gym, of which I was completely unaware of.

I did know that clients that came were now going to be in violation of the Governor’s orders, which bothered me because they just wanted to come for a workout and to feel great once again in mind and body.

I give them so much credit because they knew the consequences as they headed in for their workout but some of them still went in. What courage and belief in HOPE they displayed!!!

When I opened up that day, the law was fully ready for the protestors that thank God, did not show up. The Officers were again very gracious and just awesome, although it was quite a scene for the people that were driving by that were trying to see what was going on (I will be able to write about all this more detail in the near future).

Anyhow, since I was in violation, I got my 3rd summons in 3 days. If it were baseball, I’d be the best player of all time with that average:).

Well, then I received a call about a closed door meeting that night that involved myself and 3 other men, all of which I respect the heck out of. The meeting was about coming up with a compromise, which I was all about. Again, this had nothing to do with me opening the gym, it had to do with providing hope to everyone out there that was fatigued with the past few months.

That meeting lasted about 2 hours and the one man that gets a lot of credit is Assemblyman, Roy Frieman, who set it up and was one of the 4 men in the room.

It was just a fantastic thing to be a part of and I knew that our actions were heard all the way up to the top just by the nature of the meeting and what I was privy to.

The day certainly took a turn that I did not expect, but I guess that’s why you have to have no expectations or just expect anything and everything to happen.

What a day, what a night. By the time I went to bed, I was running on empty, elated but drained….

Up and Down, Chaos and Peace

Two weeks ago began the most amazing and emotional week of my life.

I had made a video to give people hope on a Tuesday night about our choice to open Newell Strength.

Within a few hours it had almost 10K views.

Fox News reached out the next day and it was on.

My intention for opening Newell Strength was more about hope than anything. If was just about opening up for business, the easier thing would have been to stay closed.

Saturday I had the interview on national television which was surreal. Then the rest of the weekend was up and down, not being sure what to expect on Monday afternoon when we opened.

Monday was full of talking with reporters and such during the early part of the day and listening to other people tell me how the scene was unfolding at Newell Strength. I wasn’t planning on going in until [2:30] or so for our 4 PM opening.

Driving in was wild because I had no idea what to expect from all the different things I was hearing.

I was listening to ‘Born in the USA’ by Bruce as I pulled in for parking.

I walked in, noticed there was already a crowd gathering, opened the bay doors and began to play patriotic music.

To be continued tomorrow…..

Faith Over Fear in the Corona Climate Part 2

In today’s podcast, I continue the discussion about faith over fear.

Keep in mind that this was recorded about a month ago, valid points, interesting insights but notice how the energy has changed since.

A Big Day All Around

One week ago, I had no idea where I’d be today.

I’ll get to telling you about the historic Monday from a week ago as the week goes on….

But today is a big day.

It is Tank’s birthday, it’s Memorial Day and as you read this I am down at the Jersey shore, getting ready to give a speech to a couple thousand people.

Funny enough, I don’t even know what I am going to talk about, but I do know it’ll come from the heart.

We will celebrate Colt’s birthday later in the afternoon and remember all those that gave their lives to battle for our freedom.

I got invited to speak today simply because I honored my internal convictions and values and carried them out.

In life, when we do what we know is right in our heart, amazing things happen.  The cool thing is that what’s right for you or what you have in your heart may be different than me, but that’s cool, great things will still happen.
