The Eagle and The Blue Herron

You should know by now that I am a BIG believer in omens.

And whether or not you believe in the meta-physical, it doesn’t matter.

Because just like a superstition, if you keep an eye out for omen’s, you will see them and…

Then your brain will start focusing on certain things, literally changing its chemistry and belief systems about what is possible.

When we got a lay of our new land a week and a half ago from the very gracious sellers, Anthony, the husband, took us down to some trail paths near the river.

And out of nowhere, a bald eagle flew down and landed on a branch next to another eagle on the other side of the river!

I have seen eagles in the wild (still no big foot though) but never in Hillsborough.

I took it as a sure sign of great things to come in our new home.

Then, just this morning, I took Dax and Mateena down to the river and a beautiful blue herron stood just 20 feet away from us.  I watched as it gracefully took off a hundred or so feet to find a new spot.

Another great sign.  Do I know exactly what it means?  Nope, but that doesn’t matter.

All that matters to me is that I am constantly trying to look for the positive and I am constantly believing that I have a great life.

There is no reason that you can’t do the same.  Yes, the brain is hard-wired for the negative, but so what?!

It’s your choice how YOU decide to think about life.  Or, you can be like everyone else and let the ups and downs of life dictate your emotional state which then will dictate your thoughts.  But don’t BE like everyone else….

Dana is going to be heading up a brand new Fit Mom’s Challenge for the new year at Newell Strength for those mom’s that don’t want to be like all the other moms that put themselves last.

We don’t have the exact start date finalized just yet, but if you would like to apply for one of the 10 spots, you can go here: http://www.newellstrength.com/fit-mom/

What is Success to You? And What are You Willing to Do?

What is Success to You? And What are You Willing to Do?

Dan Gable, famous for having only lost one wrestling match in his entire collegiate career at the University of Iowa and for winning a gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games was asked by a reporter . . .

“What made you such a good collegiate wrestler?”

He said, “Well, you know, every afternoon at Iowa State we used to work out from [4:00]-[6:30], and from [6:00]-[6:30], we did the hardest conditioning anybody could ever go through. Then at [6:30], that was it.

People went to the showers and then left. I went to the locker room and I got my jump rope.

Then I’d go back into the wrestling room, and I’d start jumping rope until I passed out.”

When’s the last time you put in the extra time?

Here’s a link to an article I just finished up for ya, enjoy!

Your Main Problem is That You Think You Shouldn’t Have Any

Your Main Problem is That You Think You Shouldn’t Have Any

While eating a nice grass fed, organic cheeseburger the other night, I had a Tony Robbins documentary on in the background.

I have long been a HUGE fan of Robbins’ work.  ‘Awaken the Giant Within’ is one of my top 5 all-time books and was THE book that got everything started for me.

Devon and I even stayed at his resort in Fiji for our honeymoon 5 years ago.

His message is always relevant to the listener IF the student is ready to accept the truth.  And that was once again the case in his documentary when he told the crowd: You wanna know what your main problem is?  Your main problem is that you don’t think you should have any of the problems that you have.

Think about that for a second.  The nature of the mind is to not want problems, yet we cannot grow without problems, failure and challenge.

The winner’s mind seeks out and embraces problems.  If you avoid problems at all costs, you are living small.

Were you put here on this earth to live big or play small?

The purpose of life I believe, is growth.  You cannot stay the same.  You are either regressing or growing.

The very law of momentum in life means that it’s impossible to stay put.  Yes, you can rest for a few minutes to smell the roses, like the sherpa that is climbing the mountain.  But like the sherpa, you must decide to keep going.

The higher up you go, the more important it will be to rest and recharge.

Speaking of recharging, Dana is running an awesome special for her FST sessions for the month of December: buy 2 get one free.

Get something different this year for your family members.  You can even use that extra session on yourself to recharge.

I have tried many different types of recovery and relaxation methods, but this is by far my favorite! You can email her at dana@newellstrength.com

The Pitbull Attack on my Birthday

The Pitbull Attack on my Birthday

Two years ago, on my birthday to be exact, we took Dax and Mateen over to the dog park before going to see a movie later on that night.

Devon was 8 months pregnant with Braxton at that point.  We were already at the dog park for about a half hour when I noticed a pit bull acting very strange.

And after talking to the owner, I knew why.  The owner was aloof and didn’t even know the background of this dog that he had rescued one month earlier.

I do hate that pit’s get a bad rap, they are beautiful dogs and usually the ones that you see on the news are part of a cultural problem, not the actual breed.

Anywho, we watched as the pit spearheaded another mut right in the side for no good reason.

That’s when I said to Devon that we should start making our way to the truck.  We had already been there long enough and I didn’t like having this wild card near my pups.

Now, keep in mind, stupidly, I had flip flops on because it was a very hot, late summer day.  Mateena made one more bee line to go mark her territory as we were walking towards the gate.

I turned around and saw the pit running at her. There was also a rot that had just arrived, making his way over to the very same area.

Mateena knows herself as silly as that sounds.  I’d argue that she knows herself better than most people.  She knows that she is a loner and that she doesn’t like being in a crowded area.

And like any dog, she reacts if put in a situation that she doesn’t like.  The pit went up behind her and started sniffing her BE-hind.  Mateena turned and did this little chomp she does to let other dogs know to back off.

As I saw this unfolding, I was already running as fast as I could over to the spot because I knew what was about to happen.  The pit reacted to her chomp and clamped down on her skull.  Thank God I got there in time to kick the pit in the head a few times, dislodging his grip on her.

Stupidly, once again (man this was a dumb day by me all around), I stayed between the pit and Mateena and the rot that was now starting to get worked up.  I didn’t think about what it could have done to me.  I reacted and put my family first.

Luckily, I was very aware of my surroundings that day.

I knew the environment and I could ‘feel’ the energy that was in the air.

You can do the same thing, not with a pit bull of course but in your home, at your job, etc.

Environments are triggers.  The brain is always scanning your environments.  You are either going to be at the mercy of your environments or you are going to master your environments.

People often are stressed out of their minds because of their very mismanagement of their environments.

Well, lucky for you, Dana told me it’d be okay to run a special for her Fascial Stretch Therapy service for the holiday season.  For the month of Decemeber, Dana is offering a buy 2, get 1 free deal.

I am already booking a bunch for myself and Devon.

If you are overly stressed, tight in your lower back and regular old massage isn’t doing the trick, then shoot me an email and I will set you up with Dana.  For inquiring minds, if you aren’t sure what FST is, Dana shows you in a quick video here: https://youtu.be/mSUTCEkl3lM

The Path Is Immediate

The Path Is Immediate

When I was 17 years old, I wanted to be the best strength coach in the world.

I didn’t even really know what that meant because I had no one to set the bar against.

All I knew was that I was consumed with this idea of being the best.  Looking back on it, it was being the best that I could become.

It was reaching my full potential.  Am I there yet?  Nope, not even close.

However, I far surpassed my ‘movies of the mind’ from way back when.

You never really know where you are going to wind up.  Most people never even sniff their best self because they are unwilling to see how far they can actually go in life.

The path, your path, is immediate.  You are on it right now.  You can see the next step or even maybe the next couple of steps.

But the path is going to wind and zig-zag and go up and down.  Most people try to see the end from their current position.

You cannot see the end from where you are right now.  All that projecting does is increase your level of anxiety and makes you feel like a loser.

If you are feeling the great anxiety gap, just know that it is caused by trying to focus on the end of the path (which doesn’t really exist, it just keeps going) rather than your current and next steps.

Success is yours for the taking.  So what if it means you gotta show up and do the work every day.  So what if it means that you didn’t see anything after one day of doing visualization exercises.

The time is going to go by anyway.  You and you alone are in charge of your destiny.  If you don’t think so, it’s because you’ve bought into the lie of ‘out there’.

I will be teaching some really cool stuff that will help you activate regions of the brain that you didn’t even knew existed and fusing that with some serious mental work to make 2017 your best year ever.  This one is going to be a bit different, so there’s only room for 6 people.  You can find more info and sign up here, if you dare to be great in 2017: http://kylenewell.com/december

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

I am going to let you in on a little secret of mine.

But you have to promise not to tell anyone!

Ok, here it is:  when I learn something valuable, I teach it and implement it immediately, like that same day-immediately.

That’s it?

Yup, that’s it.  So many people go to seminars and learn and get all jazzed up but never take the shrink wrap off of their ideas.  They never implement.

Just last week, a friend and mentor of sorts of mine, Roy G Biv, was giving me some nifty pointers and advice.  I made sure I took action that very night on the two things he had taught me.

If I had waited, they would have become just some other cool ideas that never saw the light of day.

Every time I learn a new Mind Map technique or style of writing or exercise, I teach them or put them to use in the very next session.

Teaching is the greatest learning tool we have.  Teaching is how you implement.

Teaching will cement ideas into your nervous system in ways that mere comprehension never can and never will.

Comprehension is what everyone does.  No one retains much these days.  Be different, start retaining the lessons you are learning in life.

In December’s Mind Map workshop, I am going to be teaching YOU some very cool things that you will implement the very same night to understand your brain more and to unleash some hidden powers within that you never knew you had.  You can register for one of the 6 spots here: http://kylenewell.com/december

The Lumberjack Who Worked Smarter . . .

The Lumberjack Who Worked Smarter . . .

It’s a lumberyard and there were these lumberjacks that this lumberyard sends out every day to the forest out in Oregon to chop down trees.

It’s early June and all the recruits of college guys came to work for the summer, and you know, they’re all college athletes and most of them were football players and these huge guys because not only are they getting paid, but they were also getting in shape by swinging axe all day.

This was the perfect job.

So, after a few weeks, after the initial thrust were people are kind of getting a little bored, one day the boss called everybody over and he said, “Okay, every once in a while I do this. We’re going to give a bonus of $250 to whoever chops down the most trees today.

So, we’re going to start as we always do at eight o’clock.

Everybody is going to take an hour break for lunch, and then you’re going to hear the bell ring at five o’clock.

Then, we’ll tell you tomorrow who won the prize.

Well, everybody’s geared up because these are all competitive guys, and about twenty of them, all college guys.

There was one guy who was in his sixties.

He’s been working for this company for years and years and years and years. Everybody totally discounted him.

Well, everybody started swinging their axe and falling trees and the energy level was high, but the old guy like every hour, hour and a half, he would just mosey up the way into a shed and come back fifteen minutes later and start chopping again.

So, people said, “What a loser this guy is.”

So, they’re chopping and chopping and then another hour and a half later, they see the old guy go up to the shed and all that. Okay, five o’clock, everybody ends with a big spurt, and everybody thinks they won.

The next morning at eight o’clock, the boss calls everybody around, and he said, “Ralph, come over here.

Here’s your $250.”

Everybody says, “Are you kidding me?

Ralph was the old guy.

How he could win?

He was taking a break.

How could he win?

How could he chop down more trees?”

Somebody said, “Ralph, what were you doing when you’re going up to that shed?”

Ralph said, “I might be old, but I’m smart.

I was doing something that you guys weren’t doing.

Every hour, hour and a half, I was sharpening my axe.

I was sharpening my axe.”

That’s what we’re talking about.

The person who gets the best grades is not the person that works the hardest.

It’s the person who works the smartest, and we’ve spent all these hours trying to convince you of this that don’t just keep swinging the axe, just don’t keep working hard.

Start working smart.

Prep for you week ahead today – Kyle Newell

If you aren’t quite clear on how to work smarter, then perhaps  you should schedule a short mind map with me.  Tire kickers please do not apply:) http://www.newellstrength.com/mindmap

Wanna Know How I Went 4 Years Without Getting Sick?

Wanna Know How I Went 4 Years Without Getting Sick?

When I was teaching, I used to get sick all the time.

I was over-extended and run down.

But a funny thing happened as soon as I stopped teaching; I ceased getting sick with things like the common cold or sinus infection.

My streak came to an end last year during a period of high stress (hmmm, I wonder if there is any correlation?).

Now, I am back at my streak.  Although Devon’s bronchitis tried to weasel its way into me this past week, I told it to go find someone else to bother because ‘I don’t have time for that non-sense.’

Yes, I actually talk to my brain like that and often.  And there’s your first clue as to why I don’t get sick anymore.

  • Besides a strong belief in my immunity, I also eat a ton of good, organic, cholesterol-laden foods.
  • And I roll my gut out each morning as part of my morning routine. Why?  Because 80% of your lymphatic fluid and immune system are located in the gut, but there they stay if you don’t do anything to ‘pump’ them to the rest of the body.

And these are two things that we are going to be adding into our clients programs in terms of education and practice.  What other fitness facility would even dare to make such claims?

None that I can think of.  But then again, there are none that I know of that are striving to BE the best in the world.

If you’d like to try some of this wizardry out, then you can inquire about our 3-Week Test Drive this holiday season.  I must warn you, we are highly selective and spots are limited to just 5 for the month of December since it’s our super busy season.  http://www.newellstrength.com/3wtd

The Real Reason Mind Mapping Almost Didn’t Happen

The Real Reason Mind Mapping Almost Didn’t Happen

A little over two years ago I was sitting at a sandwich shop, talking with a buddy, scheming about why we should leave the seminar we were attending.

It didn’t make sense.

There was no way we could actually use it.

And, there was one really annoying girl in the 10 person class.

But something in my gut told me to stay, so that we did.

That seminar was my first exposure to Mind Mapping with Dax.

I was scared.  I was so into the mind, but this would be one more thing to learn and to try and master.  I didn’t have the time I told myself.

Or was I scared that I would actually become much more powerful in helping people transform their lives and the awesome responsibility was the thing I feared?

I am not quite sure, but I am glad that I over-rode my instinct to flee.  Every time you feel that instinct in a non-violent situation, it is your chance to step outside your comfort zone and grow.

Pay attention to the signs of life, they are everywhere and they come at you multiple times per day.

Grow or shrivel, the choice is yours.

Speaking of growing, here’s a chance for you to master yourself; for a limited time, followers of Newell Strength can get the 25 page time mastery manual and live recording for dirt cheap.  This is powerful if put to use, so if that awesome responsibility scares you, then it’s probably best to pass on it.  http://www.kylenewell.com/time

Rhino’s Don’t Feel Gnats

Rhino’s Don’t Feel Gnats

Have you ever been stopped dead in your tracks by judgment?

I am sure the answer is yes.  The brain is very sensitive to judgment for survival reasons.

Here’s how it works:  your brain perceives slights and judgments.  The animal brain perceives it as you might get ‘kicked out’ of the tribe and your chance for survival goes way down.

(By the way, this is THE reason people in general are so petrified of public speaking).

Whenever you are trying to actually create something in your life, the swamp creatures will come out to attack.  It’s human nature.

And if you worried about everyone that said something mean or nasty about you, you would never ever be able to succeed.

Do you know why Rhino’s don’t feel gnats?  It’s because they have thick skin…

What other people think of you is none of your business.

If you expect that any time you are passing someone on the ladder of life they WILL bark at you, then you can formulate your response ahead of time.

Don’t give them any energy of yours.  Simply move on and realize that if you are trying to please everyone, you will wind up pleasing nobody.

Your self-image is everything.  Believe in what you are doing.

December’s workshop is going to be like nothing you’ve ever experienced.  I was going to do it on the 14th, but I need a little extra time to prepare for this one.  This one will be limited to 7 people max.  Keep an eye later this week for the bullet points of what we will be doing at this ‘Davinci’ workshop.
