Fear (12)

Free Fear or Freedom Over Fear?

When I was 7, I had the stark reality of a childhood friend dying.  It was almost too much for me to comprehend and it put me into a hyperfocus on death for the next several years.

But believe it or not, I think that this gave me a big advantage in life.

For one, I live with urgency, because I know life is not infinite, at least this ‘5-sense’ reality isn’t.  Now, I don’t live with urgency in the sense that I am hurried, I live with urgency in that I want to experience a lot and achieve my mission.

Secondly, I have been able to connect the dots with death to my mastery of Mind Mapping and I realize that although fear is a real feeling, I can usually tamp it down until the point of acting in the face of it and not backing down when it wants to look me in the eyes.

The mainstream media sells you ‘free fear’.  They know the brain is hyper focused on all things fear so it drives ratings.  The question is, are you going to choose free fear or freedom over fear?

It’s a matter of focus and attention.

Your Heart and Mind Must Align

About 5 weeks ago, I had one of the most amazing weeks of my life.

That was when we opened Newell Strength, despite the lockdown.

Did it make logical sense?  Not necessarily.

But I wasn’t following my brain, I was listening to my heart.  And when you listen to your heart, you cannot go wrong.  When you ignore your heart, you almost always go wrong.

I knew that my decision was based in pureness of heart and therefore I had nothing to fear.

And the results spoke for themselves.

Make sure your mind aligns with your heart, not the other way around.

P.S-We are now accepting trial members once again.  If you’re ready for a change and want to start shaking off the rust, weight and low energy of the past few months of quarantine, then you’ve found your answer.  You can apply for our 30-day trial here and a Coach will reach out to  you.

It’s Time For You to Look the Dragon in the Eye

In today’s episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I discuss the concept of examining your true fears, looking the dragon in the eye and not backing down.

The thought process in this episode is interesting as it was pretty much when I decided we were going to open the gym on 5/18, despite the fear on multiple levels.

Fear Attracts Like Energy

Over the past month, I have been reviewing and going over my notes from the book, Conversations with God.

The book examines energy and fear and such.

One of the 3 laws in the book is that fear attracts like energy.

People don’t realize that their thoughts are magnetic and have literal energy frequencies.

Ever wonder why some people seem to have a black cloud following them around?

Your thoughts lead to your actions and your words.  The clearest example that I have thought of recently about words having energy is music.

Notice how your favorite song makes you feel or how angry music can make you angry and change your mood.

If your dominant thought is one of fear, be mindful of it and then begin to change your inner dialogue.

Can You Look Fear in the Eye?

Two weeks ago, I embarked on the craziest week of my life.

I am currently making it into a short 20 page book and possibly a documentary at some point in the next year.

Anyhow, before the week began, I received a text from a friend and client that said, ‘I admire what you are doing, looking fear right in the eye and not flinching….’

That was a jolt of energy that I needed on Sunday the 17th.

And look, your fears will be different than my fears and this lesson about fear isn’t just about how we opened up Newell Strength with the government’s approval (amazing how it came about).

The point is, when you feel fear, that usually means you are heading in the right direction.

The problem is, when you feel it, look it in the eye and then retreat back into your comfort zone, never having gone through the transformational process of going head first into the resistance you feel.

Lessons are everywhere, if you are paying attention.

P.S-We are ready to start forming and shaping the Shredder.  It will be different this year, but we are going to make it work.  We are taking x amount of teams, here’s the breakdown.  The contest begins on….

Faith over Fear in the Corona Climate

I recorded today’s episode about a month ago.

It was one of the most passionate ‘rants’ I’ve had on my podcast and it was infused with passion.

It’s all about acting with faith over fear because as I’ve been saying, fear is the real virus to be afraid of.

With faith, you can conquer that.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

P.S-We will be up and running soon.  Some of you have been reaching out about the annual Fat Shredder contest.  We will be doing it, and are aiming to start in the beginning of June.  More details to come!

What Are You Going to Do to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone?

This morning, I went for my 45-minute walk with my 80 pound weight vest on in a tsunami.

Because it’s Mental Toughness Monday.

I am switching the name to mental toughness Monday rather than Mindset Monday because mental toughness is a skill.  Mindset is more fluid, some days we feel up, some days we feel down.

But I have found over my life that when I feel down or in a rut, I can usually climb out just by challenging myself to be uncomfortable.

What are you going to do today?  How are you going to challenge yourself?  Even if its something like taking a cold shower or writing a few sentences with your opposite hand.

Remember, mental toughness is a choice and a skill.

And all skills can be learned.

You got this.

1- The Fat Shredder is coming!  Realistically it’ll probably start at some point in the backside of May and run until the 4th of July weekend.  Here’s all you have to do for now: start thinking of your teammates. Each team will have at least a member, non-member and one woman (teams of 3).  It’s gonna be epic and just what we all need at that time:)

2-I am opening the doors to the second Panda Challenge, which will be starting within the next 3 weeks.  The first 12 ‘Panda’s’ are crushing it and dare I say, all 12 are on track to hit their 45-day goals! Yes, I only take 12 because of the high level of Coaching each client receives.  5 of the spots are already taken from people that just missed the cut for the first Panda Challenge. If you’d like to find out more info and at least throw your name in the ring for me to decide if you’re a good fit, then go here: https://hillsborough.newellstrength.com/step_1

Fear is the Biggest…

On vacation, I was able to read two novels, squeezed in between our family time and while the boys were sleeping.

I believe reading novels is an undervalued hobby.  It causes you to use much more of your brain that just watching a television show and it really allows your brain a break.

Its meditative if you will.

In one of the books, which was excellent by the way (The Betrayal by Tim Tigner), they speak of fear being the biggest industry in the world.

I know fear is the strongest motivator but I never heard it phrased this way before.

Flip this around and figure out to how to use this to your advantage.  Figure out exactly what you fear and then write it down, break it down and reframe it.

What if all goes to hell?

I’ll counter that with: What if everything goes better than expected?

Fax You Didn’t Know about Fear

When I was just a young teacher in my first year in 2006, I would listen to Jim Rohn on my drives and I would read Zig Ziglar on my breaks.  This was at the same time in which the famed book, the ‘Secret’ came out.

I was at a low point in my life at that time after battling a 2 year mysterious illness and one day, I made the decision that I wasn’t just going to give up on life.  Nope!

I was going to get back up after being knocked down, time and time again, and this time I was going to win.  Something just snapped in me, which is why I became a fiend for self-improvement books and tapes.

Well, both of those legends would often talk about fear and how it was really just False Evidence Appearing Real.  Fear is future based thinking, so literally we are scared of something that isn’t real.

Yesterday, Munchie swam the length of an Olympic pool by himself (with his swimmies on) and the week before that, he began riding around a bike with training wheels.  He had no fear.  Yup, he fell a few times but we got him right back in his seat.

He had no fear because he was in the moment, a kid his age doesn’t worry about the future our what might happen.

If he can operate like that, then why can’t we?

The Ghost Out In Leftfield

The Ghost Out In Leftfield

A couple of Thursday night’s ago, we were playing in playoffs of the local softball league.

I happened to be coaching first in the second inning or so when I noticed an apparition starting to appear in left field.

Now, the field that we play at has a slow, one lane road that is essentially where a home run would be.

Normally, the outfielders play on the near side of the road as anything hit over the road would be a bomb in softball terms and more than likely a home run assuming the hitter could run anything faster than an 8 second forty yard dash (that is super slow if you aren’t sure).

So the other team’s left fielder, kind of goofy, but I will give him credit that he did make quite a few plays the couple of times we played this particular team is awaiting the pitch, when the guy on our team, sure enough, hits a bomb to left field.

By now, that apparition started coming into focus.  It wasn’t a ghost, but an older guy with a long white beard.  The ball was heading straight for him, but instead of getting out the way like a normal person would do, he decides that he is going to make a play on the ball.

The left fielder had no clue the guy was out there and proceeded to collide with the old man.  Amazingly the old man nearly caught the ball.

And unfortunately for us, he stopped the ball from rolling which meant our guy didn’t get a homerun.

The guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Unless of course, his goal was to catch a fly ball at a local softball game, in which case he was in exactly the right place at the right time.

It’s all about knowing your goals.

The goal is to keep the goal, the goal, at all times.

If are lacking clarity on your goals in life or fitness, then you might want to check out our http://www.newellstrength.com/3wtd (3-week test drive).

Don’t be like the old guy in the outfield, although it was one of the oddest yet funniest things that I have seen in quite a long time.
