Resistance is There to Make You Stronger

When I first started lifting weights, I didn’t take it seriously.  I was lifting because my football Coach made us.

 

Then, a few years later, going into my junior year of high school, I bought in.  I did it because I wanted to do it.

 

I would spend hours, literally, in the gym.  There were times that I couldn’t lift my arms for days.

 

But you know what? I got stronger.

 

You get bigger and stronger when you lift weights that your body hasn’t been exposed to before.

 

And in life, you face resistance and obstacles to make your mind and spirit stronger.  Don’t shy away from these obstacles.

 

They are there to help you grow.

Arnold Said It, So It Must Be Right…

A couple of weeks ago, I watched the new Netflix documentary, Game Changers, about animal protein and such.

 

It was definitely thought provoking, but no matter what you think of the content, Arnold, who was one of the producers of the movie, had this to say about switching to more of a plant based diet:

 

‘Don’t tell someone they can’t eat meat anymore, because first off, people aren’t going to like that (they won’t form a habit around it) and they will reject it with a big F-U.  Simply ask them to see if they go one day per week without animal protein’.

 

Here we have perhaps the greatest fitness icon of all-time with some great wisdom into how habits are formed.

 

Don’t go ALL-IN, it rarely works.  Start to dabble and build a foundation, keeping your approach ‘alive’ as needed.

 

And yes, I think it’s worth the watch, as long as you have an open mind:)

Dude, You’re Crazy…

On the same night that the boys had their tub shenanigans (refer to Monday’s email), they were playing with sticks up in the street.

 

Emma was napping in my arms and the dogs were roaming around as well.

 

The sticks the boys had were a couple of feet long and as boys will be boys, they start sword fighting with the sticks.

 

Well, my natural reaction was to tell them to put their bike helmets and safety goggles on so they protected their head and eyes.

 

Somehow this came up the next morning at the gym and the Outlaw, long time friend and member, says, ‘I love it how nonchalantly you tell them to gear up for the fight while most people would have said NO stick fighting.’

 

And to be honest, that thought didn’t even cross my mind.

 

We all have our own style of how we show up in life and it’s all good.

 

Be YOU, even when it’s a little different.

The Stole My Kettlebell

About a month ago, I was up in the cul-de-sac with the boys and I happened to notice my 70 pound kettlebell was missing.

I keep it up near the curb with some old school dumbbells because to be honest, its a pain to lug up our steep driveway.

And where we live is secluded, rarely anyone is ever back there.

Well, as best as I could piece together, we had alternate garbage men the day before, they came by later than usual.  I surmised that they stole the kettlebell.

I looked into it but there wasn’t much the lady from the company could help me with being that I had no proof.

So, was I going to be bitter?  Or was I going to chuckle about it and realize it was of my own making?

You guessed it, the latter.

If you are going to laugh about something later, mind as well laugh about it in the NOW.  Life is too short.

And on the flip side, I’ll just have to be a little more creative with my at home workouts now.

Don’t Envy the Transformers

On our last date night a little over a week ago, Devon and I were talking about the brain and how change actually  happens.

(Don’t you feel sorry for her sometimes that she is stuck with my weirdness?)

I was explaining to her the difference between thinking about change and when change actually happens.  Many people think and ponder changing their life for the better for months, years, heck, even decades!

In their mind, change and transformation is this long, drawn out process that must be suffered through.

In reality, real change happens in a split fraction of a second, once you make up your mind to transform.  Will the physical manifestation happen in a split second?  Nope, but all things start in the mind first.

People that have totally transformed their lives have done so by first making up their mind to do so.  So, while you may think about changing, it will remain nothing more than that; a fleeting thought that you have every now and again.

When you finally make up your mind to transform, it’s like a lightning bolt.

You don’t have to envy those that transform into the butterflies of life, you can BE one yourself once you decide to BE.

Your Mind is Like Parachute

Imagine jumping out of a plane, 10,000 feet up in the air.

Your security is your parachute pack.

And your parachute can only work if its open, much like your mind.

When you have a closed mind, you will not learn anything.

An open mind allows you to create and creating is the real key to learning, making your own connections.

Always practice emptying your cup.

How to Meditate

The main thing that I’ve noticed over the years is that people are very quick to put their ‘fun’ time and meditation time on the back burner, always thinking that they will get to it someday.

Well, that someday is now.  Yes, meditation is that important.

I believe you haven’t bought in yet because you aren’t clear on what meditation really is and how to do it.

There are a lot of misconceptions about meditation, such as having to sit in a certain position and empty your mind of thoughts; both of which are totally untrue!
