The Mysterious Rice in the Salt Shaker

A few weeks ago, Devon told me that she was putting some salt into the boy’s bedroom diffuser and rice kept getting in there somehow.

 

I chuckled, because I had been putting rice into the salt shaker since it gets very humid back near the creek where we live and the salt gets clumpy.

 

It’s an old restaurant trick.

 

Devon’s mystery was solved.  Surely she knew that rice couldnt’ spontaneously appear out of nothing, right?

It’s no different than thinking muscle weighs more than fat (they weigh the same, a pound is a pound) or that thinking you can turn your body fat into muscle.

 

Pick the main goal, building muscle or losing weight, and focus on that until you  get to where you are happy and then address the other side of the coin….

Unlearning Nutrition Principles

I remember way back in college, in 2003, my senior year, when I was really thinking outside the box about nutrition.  Part of that process, being young and naive, was going against anything that was inside the box.

And while that has mostly served me well, one of the things that I think back about is the nutrition pyramid that the US government put out years ago and is taught in every school.

I used to vehemently disagree with it.  The answer, as I was taught, was protein, protein, protein.  Protein was the answer to both muscle building and losing fat.  But how can that be?
