Member Showcase: Leah McMorrow

In case the name looks familiar, Leah is the wife of last week’s member showcase, Brendan.  

Leah decided to come in for last year’s Fat Shredder contest and although she thought any place with weights or strength training might be intimidating, she soon found that was not the case at all.  

One of Leah’s favorite things about Newell Strength is that the Coaches Coach you where you are at, rather than a one size fits all approach that you’ll get at a lot of places.

See How Brendan Took Control of His Life

Brendan started training with us through the Ripped Dads contest a little over a year ago.

He had been inquiring for a while, like most people do, and decided, ‘What the heck, let me try it’.

His results were so good in the 6-week Ripped Dads contest that he since joined to become a full-time member.

And the transformation he has made is more than just physical, in fact, it’s more on a mindset level.

Member Showcase: Taylor Post

Taylor’s mom, Neva, began training with us over 3 years ago and now works within Newell Strength.

For the past couple of years, Neva was trying to get Taylor to give us a shot.

Every time a promotion or special program came up, Neva was drop some hints.

Taylor wasn’t biting.

Until this past fall….

Taylor decided to do our 6-week women’s transformation and she hasn’t looked back since.

Taylor was our January member of the month at our Hillsborough location.

Yadi: The First Woman Trainee at NS

8 years ago, when I opened the first facility, I cut loose any women that I had been training.

I explained to them that we were only going to train high level athletes and serious men.  It was a certain culture and environment that I wanted to create.

As year one went by, I loosened on that, now that the culture at the time, was cemented.

So, one of our clients brought two of his friends in for a workout, one of which was Yadi, who would become the first official woman member.

That was a long time ago, and she is still with us.

In this short video, Yadi tell you about when she first started and what changes she has noticed in all aspects of her life.

Are You Stepping Over $100 Bills?

I remember when I did an experiment on myself 10 years ago.

I decided to try and sleep 8 hours per night, which was much more than the 5.5 I had been accustomed to.

Without changing my nutrition or training, I managed to lose 10 pounds of fat in that month. Amazing!

We live in a time where we think more is better, harder is better, faster is better and that success is only a matter of will.

If you are a S.O.S.O.H like most (stressed out, survival oriented, human) and you decide that you ‘want to get into shape’, the answer is not ‘harder’. The answer is to slow down and build some ‘you’ time into your life.

The thing is never THE thing. Your weight gain or lack of weight loss is usually much more than just a simple calorie equation.

Going back to the S.O.S.O.H’s, they normally start to take extreme measures and diet harder and wake up earlier to workout, all the while, not taking time to sleep or just sit and breathe for 10 minutes each day.

They are literally stepping over $100 bills to pick up nickels.

I Know How You Feel

Yup, that’s me in 2011, just a few months into the opening of the first Newell Strength facility.

The funny thing is, I was eating properly and training, yet, when Devon snapped these pictures of me, I was shocked!

You see, I was stressed and not sleeping (by choice).  I was the only one in the business, which meant I would train people at [5:30] AM, head right to school to teach all day and then back to NS to Coach until 9pm, every single night.

The very real reality of keeping the pedal to the metal resulted in poor health and one of the most out of shape periods of my life.

The thing was not the thing (eating properly and training).

I know you feel if this is you.

Doing everything right according to the textbooks, yet, going downhill.  Until you realize that a healthy body is much, much more than a simple math equation, you will continue to struggle.

Member Showcase: Nick Franzoso, aka The King

I can tell you that no one has been training longer with Newell Strength in some fashion or another than Nick.

He is one of my great friends and we used to train at the local YMCA back in our senior year of high school before school!

We had some great memories in those early mornings!

And….he is a real life King!

Member Showcase: Michelle Whitman

I remember when I first met Michelle.  She came to a small workshop I was putting on in the office at Newell Strength with a good friend.

The introduced themselves and then told me that one day, they would be training with us.  They were currently training at a globo gym and held us in high esteem as the pinnacle of training in town.

They had the mindset like so many that they had to get in shape before coming to us (which is perception for some, but totally not true).

Well, I am said so say that her friend died later that year of cancer.  And Michelle wanted to honor her by following through with her vision of training at Newell Strength.  Michelle has made so many changes that it is hard to believe, from the physical to the career to the mental and to having awesome relationships now!
