My Idea Worked Until it Didn’t

Devon and I have been having this battle with Mateena for the past few months.  Every time we go out now, Mateena takes out the garbage and makes a mess.

Now, our garbage can in the kitchen is on a slider behind two doors, not easy for a dog to get in to. And we tried all the cheapo dog safety locks on Amazon which Mateena discards and bypasses with ease.

So I had an idea, I was going to by a small chain and lock it up each time we went out.  Much to my pleasant surprise, while at Lowe’s, I found a ‘u-lock’ that was even simpler and would no doubt do the trick.

That was on a Sunday, on that Monday I dropped Munchie off at school, testing out my contraption.  The good news is that the u-lock was in tact when I got back.  The bad news was that it was attached to part of the cabinet door that Mateena somehow snapped off.

Geez!

It was a good thought, but I didn’t think all the way through the consequences.  Remember: what’s the worst that can happen and are you willing to live with that should it happen?

P.S-We are having our annual Festivus party on the 15th of December.  It’s a great event, it’s BYOB and Potluck, kids are more than welcome (hopefully we will be able to get the live reindeer again this year).  All donations will be going to Coach Gina and her kids for the holiday season because as you may or may not know, their house burned down a little over a month ago….be grateful for the little things.
