Sitting in a Box Collecting Dust

When I work out in my office shed each week, I have to walk by a few crates of old certifications and a few college diplomas.

Yup, they sit there, collecting dust.

Just like the few remaining bodybuilding trophies I have left (I gave most of them away).

Certifications and degrees aren’t worth the paper they are printed on unless you have taken the knowledge and made them your own.

Having an alphabet soup following your name impresses no one, nor should you be impressed with fake fitness experts that are all about their certifications.

What you should be looking for is someone that can simplify the process.  Because as the level of simplicity goes up, so does the effectiveness of the plan.

How to Master Your Time

I remember a note my dad left me about 10 years ago.

It read, ‘K, you’ve accomplished more in the past year than most can do in a decade.  I am proud of you.  And if you have time, show me how you did it. Love-Dad’.

Well, I did it out of necessity.  I created intense time pressure around everything I did because I had no other option.

At the time, I was till actively competing in bodybuilding, I was just getting Newell Strength to a growth point and I was teaching full time.

Are You a Human Doing?

Years ago, probably 16 of them or so, I remember one of the cooks at my dad’s restaurant pulling me aside to tell me he knew I would go on to impact a lot of people.

It wasn’t the first time someone had told me that, but it did strike me as odd since at the time I was just competing in bodybuilding and working as a waiter.

Looking back on it, people like Mark (the cook), saw how I did everything the same way, with energy, focus and passion.  Dealing with people, my nutrition, my training and so on.

I tell you this not to toot my horn but because it is a good illustration that we are human BEINGS, not human DOINGS.

Don’t get caught up in your to do lists and just being busy all the time.  Why not make a ‘who you want to be’ list?

There is more to life than simply increasing the speed of it.
