Your Decision is Proven When…

I always love it when another Friday the 13th rolls around.  It brings me right back to Halloween mindset, even though we are nearly in winter.

 

Anyhow, one of the things that I have been blessed with is the ability to make quick decisions.  Who knows why this is, I am sure it has to do with nature and nurture, but right or wrong, I don’t let fear stop me very often.

 

And because of this, I often act with speed, which is a huge advantage in the game of life, especially in business.

 

Think about it, everyone wants to know that their decision is the right one, so they wait and wait and wait, hoping that all the lights turn green before they put the pedal to the metal.

 

But you know something?

 

The only time we can be certain that our decision was the correct one is after we have made the decision.

 

Either way, you win, because you took action learned.  Even if it was ‘incorrect’, you still win.

 

Because remember, you only lost if you don’t know why you lost.

Way Back Wednesday: Big Ben

As we continue down this memory lane for the next few weeks, I came across this video of Big Ben, who was one of the top HS tennis players in the state at the time.

You can see the white racks still in boxes in the background and you can see Drew, one of the first ever clients of Newell Strength way back in the days of the PIT and who would go on to be the second Coach after Gabe Lincoln at Newell Strength.

Drew now has his own training business down in New Orleans.

Man, time flies.

Great memories though.

I Despise Moderation

Devon will tell you that I have an obsessive personality.

It has served me well and at times it has had to be called out.

But, I know through self-awareness that moderation doesn’t work for me. Be that in food, business, education, etc.

Take no offense (or take it if you want), but it has been my observation that people that live by the law of moderation typically get mediocre results in whatever areas they practice moderation in.

Moderation to me is similar to balance. Balance doesn’t get you anywhere, a life in harmony does. This means that at points certain areas will dominate your attention and at other times, other areas dominate, but it evens out.

I’d much rather (for multiple reasons, anti-moderation being one), eat one BIG meal per day than 4 small meals.

Go all in, whatever it is that you are doing, but remember to own it.

Rhino’s Don’t Feel Gnats

Have you ever been stopped dead in your tracks by judgment?

I am sure the answer is yes.  The brain is very sensitive to judgment for survival reasons.

Here’s how it works:  your brain perceives slights and judgments.  The animal brain perceives it as you might get ‘kicked out’ of the tribe and your chance for survival goes way down.

(By the way, this is THE reason people in general are so petrified of public speaking).

Whenever you are trying to actually create something in your life, the swamp creatures will come out to attack.  It’s human nature.

And if you worried about everyone that said something mean or nasty about you, you would never ever be able to succeed.

Do you know why Rhino’s don’t feel gnats?  It’s because they have thick skin…

What other people think of you is none of your business.

If you expect that any time you are passing someone on the ladder of life they WILL bark at you, then you can formulate your response ahead of time.

Don’t give them any energy of yours.  Simply move on and realize that if you are trying to please everyone, you will wind up pleasing nobody.

Your self-image is everything.  Believe in what you are doing.

December’s workshop is going to be like nothing you’ve ever experienced.  I was going to do it on the 14th, but I need a little extra time to prepare for this one.  This one will be limited to 7 people max.  Keep an eye later this week for the bullet points of what we will be doing at this ‘Davinci’ workshop.
