Energy (10)

Laziness and Energy

I had an epiphany last week. And that epiphany was this:

To create anything, we need to bring energy to the table.  Creating can only happen when energy is present and ramped up.

Think about money for example; money is just a form of energy, an exchange for you providing energy.  Some people’s energy can affect tons of people, while other people’s energy can’t even affect themselves.

When we go into freeze mode, when too much stress piles on, we are entering a depressed state.  Everyone has dealt with depression of some sort at one point or another.  When we are in that frozen state, energy is crap and creating is almost impossible.

So, what’s this got to do with you?

If you want to create better health, you need to bring more energy to the table, not less.

If you want to switch careers, you better up your energy.

If you want to have better relationships, you better up your energy.

Sometimes, you have to be ‘lazy’ in order to cultivate and protect your energy.  When I say lazy, I mean you have to recharge; maybe that’s a little extra sleep, maybe it means doing something fun and so on.

I used to sleep very little because I thought it was a sign of laziness and therefore weakness.  Little did I know that I was robbing my ability to create what I aspired to.

Fatigue Makes Cowards of Us All

A few weeks ago, I made a video for the Newell Strength Tribe about fatigue.

We all have times where we are going to feel fatigued, it happens, that’s life. Just as we cannot and will not always have a feeling of happiness, we are not always going to have great energy.

And the reason I made the video was because I was feeling zapped for a few days.

It was easy to have thoughts of self-pity or wanting to take it easy but I knew it was just fatigue coming at me as resistance.

When you realize that fatigue will make a coward of you, no matter how tough you are, then you can weather the storm and make it through the day, knowing that tomorrow you can turn it around.

The key is to not let the fatigue win.

And if you are fatigued often, then we need to look at your lifestyle and habits.

One of the main things about training is that you train your mind to overcome tough situations.

Be the Victor, not the victim.

Member of the Month for Hillsborough: Johnny Firley

Johnny was February’s member of the month for Hillsborough.

He joined us over a year ago and man, does he put in some work!

Johnny was used to going to the big box gyms, aka Globo Gym, and as he put it, it got stale.

Enthusiasm started to wane and therefore results started to plateau (there’s a lesson for life right there).

Anyhow, you can check out what Johnny has to say about his results and experience at Newell Strength right here:

Go All In

5 weeks ago, I recorded this episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength.

Is it a coincidence that yesterday I wrote about the brevity of life?

And I wrote that before looking ahead to which episode was going to be released today.

But no, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.  Use it is a sign on your path that there is more waiting for you to ‘go after’ in life.

In today’s episode, I discuss the concept of ‘going all in’ in my view.  You can take a listen here: http://kylenewell.com/podcast/episode-148-go-all-in/

Take a quick listen to the roughly 11-minute episode and jot down 1 thing that you can put to use.

Your 2 Biggest Assets

I remember a long-ago girlfriend asking me how I seemed to always have super amounts of energy.

She always seemed to me zombified unless it was early on during the weekend (because she got to escape her boring life for a few days).

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I always had a way of protecting and cultivating my energy.

Years later, a Coach of mine pointed out that our two biggest assets were our energy and our confidence.

In today’s episode, I discuss these two assets and what you can do to grow them and protect them.

If your energy and confidence levels are poor, the quality of your life will be ‘poor’.

How to Master Your Time, Take 2

Just the other week, Coach Dan from Newell Strength told me had just listened to one of the first podcasts that I ever recorded on time and energy management.

The message was loud and clear because just a little bit earlier that morning I was thinking I should record a newer version of that same topic.

In today’s episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I give you the secrets of how I manage my energy and time in the hopes of you being able to apply one or two of things to your own life.

It’s all about knowing what quadrant you are living in.

You can listen to the episode here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/unlocking-your-inner-strength/id1138596023?mt=2

Are You a Human Doing?

Years ago, probably 16 of them or so, I remember one of the cooks at my dad’s restaurant pulling me aside to tell me he knew I would go on to impact a lot of people.

It wasn’t the first time someone had told me that, but it did strike me as odd since at the time I was just competing in bodybuilding and working as a waiter.

Looking back on it, people like Mark (the cook), saw how I did everything the same way, with energy, focus and passion.  Dealing with people, my nutrition, my training and so on.

I tell you this not to toot my horn but because it is a good illustration that we are human BEINGS, not human DOINGS.

Don’t get caught up in your to do lists and just being busy all the time.  Why not make a ‘who you want to be’ list?

There is more to life than simply increasing the speed of it.

The Lumberjack Who Worked Smarter . . .

The Lumberjack Who Worked Smarter . . .

It’s a lumberyard and there were these lumberjacks that this lumberyard sends out every day to the forest out in Oregon to chop down trees.

It’s early June and all the recruits of college guys came to work for the summer, and you know, they’re all college athletes and most of them were football players and these huge guys because not only are they getting paid, but they were also getting in shape by swinging axe all day.

This was the perfect job.

So, after a few weeks, after the initial thrust were people are kind of getting a little bored, one day the boss called everybody over and he said, “Okay, every once in a while I do this. We’re going to give a bonus of $250 to whoever chops down the most trees today.

So, we’re going to start as we always do at eight o’clock.

Everybody is going to take an hour break for lunch, and then you’re going to hear the bell ring at five o’clock.

Then, we’ll tell you tomorrow who won the prize.

Well, everybody’s geared up because these are all competitive guys, and about twenty of them, all college guys.

There was one guy who was in his sixties.

He’s been working for this company for years and years and years and years. Everybody totally discounted him.

Well, everybody started swinging their axe and falling trees and the energy level was high, but the old guy like every hour, hour and a half, he would just mosey up the way into a shed and come back fifteen minutes later and start chopping again.

So, people said, “What a loser this guy is.”

So, they’re chopping and chopping and then another hour and a half later, they see the old guy go up to the shed and all that. Okay, five o’clock, everybody ends with a big spurt, and everybody thinks they won.

The next morning at eight o’clock, the boss calls everybody around, and he said, “Ralph, come over here.

Here’s your $250.”

Everybody says, “Are you kidding me?

Ralph was the old guy.

How he could win?

He was taking a break.

How could he win?

How could he chop down more trees?”

Somebody said, “Ralph, what were you doing when you’re going up to that shed?”

Ralph said, “I might be old, but I’m smart.

I was doing something that you guys weren’t doing.

Every hour, hour and a half, I was sharpening my axe.

I was sharpening my axe.”

That’s what we’re talking about.

The person who gets the best grades is not the person that works the hardest.

It’s the person who works the smartest, and we’ve spent all these hours trying to convince you of this that don’t just keep swinging the axe, just don’t keep working hard.

Start working smart.

Prep for you week ahead today – Kyle Newell

If you aren’t quite clear on how to work smarter, then perhaps  you should schedule a short mind map with me.  Tire kickers please do not apply:) http://www.newellstrength.com/mindmap

Stoke That Fire Bay-beee

Stoke That Fire Bay-beee

It’s about midday and just lit another fire in our cozy little family room.

I am sad to say that we only have a few more weeks here, the first ‘home’ that Devon and I shared together.

We are moving to a dream home of ours, very zen, quiet and complete with a creek in the back.

One of the things I am most excited about is the fact that I will turn part of the shed into my office.  I will have a singular light bulb or even a lantern, haven’t decided which yet as my lone light source.

Man, it’s got a mystical feel already, I can feel it!

But back to the fire.

I have been known to light fires in the middle of the summer because it set’s my environment for me.  For me, it’s always been fire and water, the two things that make me feel most connected to my source.

So when we were at my buddies the other night for a big bonfire, an old thought re-popped into my head.

As the fire raged, it was putting off quite a bit of heat.  Each palate that my buddy Chris through on went up in flames within minutes.

The fire had momentum.

Getting my measly little fire started today was a bit tough.  Normally I can get that sucker going within seconds.

After fiddling with the layout of the logs, I got it.  I can feel the heat.  And as I throw on more and more logs, I won’t have to mess around with it.

You see, the fire is already going.  The hardest part of starting a fire is just that: starting it.

Wherever you are at in life.  Whether your goal is to lose some weight, to start a business, to write a book, just start.

And once you start, keep going, day after day.

Momentum is often the most powerful force in nature, yet NO one talks about it when it comes to success.

Momentum will make you unstoppable, especially if you link it to something you are passionate about.

Momentum is about managing your time and energy in the smartest way possible.

Well, lucky for you, I finished transcribing October’s workshop which was all about Mind Map and Time Mastery. You can get the full manual (12 or so pages) and the actual audio from the workshop here: http://kylenewell.com/tm

In a brief moment, you can begin creating massive momentum.

How Jimbo CR Escaped His Golden Handcuffs

My friend Jimbo CR just made a BOLD decision.

He is leaving his corporate job of 10+ years to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

Jimbo CR has a family, a mortgage and very little time.

So when we were having a (very) early morning coffee recently, he asked for my opinion on what he should do.

Did I tell him to say FU to his bosses and leave it behind? NOPE.

Did I tell him he’d be foolish to quit? NOPE.

I told him, “Whatever path gives you more energy when you think about, go that way”.

Many people would have told him he was crazy if they knew he was leaving his cushy job.

Heck, many people told me I was stupid, a moron, arrogant and more when I decided to resign from teaching.

But I knew my path because I knew where my energy was flowing.

This is Jimbo CR’s last week at his old job.  Will this path be easy?  No way.  Will there be struggle?  For sure!

However, I know he won’t regret this decision for one minute.

What are you scared of?

If you’d like to learn how to use your mind to put yourself in state to make a decision of this magnitude, then you’re gonna want to check out the November workshop that I am putting on (6 spots left): http://kylenewell.com/theaterofmind
