Yes, Sometimes I’m and Idiot

I am just like you in that not everyone likes me. Yes, that’s the sad truth of the matter.

 

It’s the way life is.

 

Some would even say I am an idiot, but that’s okay, because what other people think of me is none of my business.

 

Yet, I’d say I am an idiot some of the times for a very specific reason….

 

When I try to do more than one thing at a time.  Usually this is work/creation related, but nonetheless, when we try to focus on more than one thing, we burn tremendous energy and rarely get anything done.

Multi-tasking is a MYTH.

 

So, the question you have to ask yourself is; what’s the one thing that you need to wrap up, focus on and complete next?

 

And then stay on that thing until it’s done.

The New Wednesday Recipe Series

We are going to be releasing a few recipes each month on Wednesdays, interspersed with clients stories.

 

For the first one, thanks to Chef Devon, she made:

 

Easy Crockpot Butternut Squash & Quinoa Soup

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 1 small butternut squash
  • 1 can (15.25 ounces) kidney beans
  • 1 can (15 ounces) corn
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) petite diced tomatoes*
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 packet (1.12 ounces) fajita seasoning mix
  • 4 cups of vegetable or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

Directions:

  1. Peel, seed, and chop the butternut squash into small bite-sized pieces (or buy pre-chopped butternut squash which is what I did to save time).
  2. Rinse and drain the kidney beans and corn.
  3. Lightly grease your slow cooker with nonstick spray (I use a 6-quart crockpot). Add in the quinoa, chopped squash, kidney beans, corn, undrained tomatoes, garlic, salt & pepper to taste, and fajita seasoning packet. (OR try a chili seasoning packet if you enjoy those flavors better).
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and give everything a good stir.
  5. Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or until the quinoa is cooked through and the squash is very tender.
  6. At this point you can remove some of the squash and mash it with a potato masher and then put it back in the soup. This is totally optional!  I ended up just mashing them a little bit with my spoon before I dove in which was perfect.
  7. Pour a bowl and enjoy!  You can add any toppings you like or just eat it as is which is so tasty!!!

What You Focus On Expands

Have you ever tried not to think about something?

 

If you have, you will know that you tend to wind up thinking about the thing more.  That’s because your brain doesn’t hear the word no, don’t, etc.

 

By trying not to focus on something, you are actually drawing attention to it.

 

And what you focus on expands.

 

Here’s a little thought: your focus and attention are driven by the quality of the questions you ask yourself constantly.  Most people aren’t conscious of the questions they run on a loop through their head.

 

But rest assured, we are always focusing on something, which means we are always having default questions playing in our head.  The problem with that is that we are hard-wired for the negative.

 

Start with this premise and create it into your own question that you write down once in the morning and once at night until it becomes automatic in your head: ‘What’s great about this current situation?’

Protect Yourself Against These 4 White Devils

A few weeks ago, I was listening to a CD.  Yes, CD’s still exist.

 

In fact, I keep over $10K worth of high level audio CDs in my truck at all times, lol.

 

So, I began to pick up where I left off with a nutritional and health course that I listened to for the first time last year.

 

In the audio, the dude talks about the 4 white devils: white flour, pasteurized milk, white salt and table sugar.  Yup, they’ll do some damage to ya and give you a messed up GI tract and a clog or two in your arteries.

 

I’d rather drink urine than pasteurized milk.  Why?  Because the pasteurization process destroys and denatures the protein molecules.  That ‘lactose intolerance’ you hear about is not really a lactose intolerance.  It’s an aversion to the denatured protein molecules and yes, I had at least a dozen clients who were lactose intolerant confirm this.

 

Drum roll please….by drinking raw milk and having no ill effects.

 

Anyway, sometimes you’d be better off knowing what to avoid that rather what you should be eating at all times.  The mind likes clarity and clarity is about knowing what ‘is’ and what ‘is not’.

 

Just a different way to think about your nutrition.

The Amazing Megosaurus

A few weeks ago, my parents got tickets for all the grandkids to go see the Monster Wheels Monster Truck show.

 

Last year, we took Brax by himself, this year, Colty was old enough to come.

 

During the show, they brought out this 20-foot Megosaurus Monster that spit fireballs and chopped a car in half with it’s gigantic teeth.

 

It was pretty awesome and the boys sat there with mouths agape.

 

The really cool thing is that this Megosaurus was created out of someone’s imagination.  Yup, most people don’t realize that things just don’t materialize.  All things first start as a thought.

 

Then it’s up to you to decide if you are going to take action on it.  The thing is that most people’s ideas never make it out of their brains and into the real world.

Member Showcase: Casey Ransone

Casey and I grew up together.

 

In fact, there is an old Little League photo of us hanging up in the Hillsborough Newell Strength when we were 11-12 years old.

 

Casey has gone on to great things, but one of the things I admire most about him is his ability to find harmony in his life between being a husband, great dad, varsity football Coach and an individual.

Your Goals for 2020

21 years ago, most of my goal setting was centered around basketball.  It was my passion and I worked my tail off to be the best player I could.

 

One of my goals heading into my junior was to be able to dunk the ball.

 

I tried some of the fancy stuff such as the old jump soles that would attach to your shoes and all types of plyometric programs.

 

I became a much better player my junior year, but I didn’t succeed at dunking…yet.

 

I was able to dunk my senior year with ease.  And it wasn’t because of anything exotic or fancy, it was simple strength training.  I got as strong as I possibly could.  Simple, daily effort.

 

And although I was behind on my timeline, the important point was that I achieved my goal and I had a timeline.  Your deadlines will make you take action, even if you don’t achieve your goal by the exact date you set.

 

If you haven’t already set your goals for 2020, don’t fret.  There is no time like the present and now is better than never.
