exercise (3)

Yup, He Said ‘It’

Two weeks ago, I was at a morning workshop.

And during one of the breaks, a fellow at my table decides to weigh in on fitness (once people find out what we do at Newell Strength, I hear all types of input and advice).

This guy was in his early 60’s and claiming about how great of shape he used to be in and how he could eat anything and just work it off.

Yet, he was telling me this as he was saying that he no longer worked out and WHILE HE WAS STUFFING COOKIES IN HIS MOUTH!

Listen, Coaching is about support, but it’s also about being a mirror to the student.

We are all adults here and we need to eat like adults.  No one likes a cheat day more than me, but if I ate like an unsupervised kid all day long, week after week, cookie after cookie, potato chip after potato chip, the results are going to be exactly what you would expect they should be.

And no, you can not outwork a poor diet.  In fact, exercise does little in and of itself to drop the weight, its when it is conjunction with the proper nutrition that the magic happens.

P.S-Whenever you’re ready here are 3 more ways we can help you transform your life, lose weight and gain bundles of energy!

1- Check out this podcast I did on Resistance (any time you are trying to improve your life, you will face this!)

2-     Perhaps you’d just like to increase your mental game.  In that case, you can check out our Time Mastery Manual (the information in here will create ‘new’ time for you and give you the ultimate freedom in life) http://kylenewell.com/time

3.      Find out more about our 30-day, Risk Free Jump Start. If you are ready to shred for the summer and want a simple, no-gimmicks approach.  A program in which you just have to show up, 3 times per week and have all the accountability that you would ever need and then some, simply send and email to devon@newellstrength.com with the subject: ‘30’.

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

I am going to let you in on a little secret of mine.

But you have to promise not to tell anyone!

Ok, here it is:  when I learn something valuable, I teach it and implement it immediately, like that same day-immediately.

That’s it?

Yup, that’s it.  So many people go to seminars and learn and get all jazzed up but never take the shrink wrap off of their ideas.  They never implement.

Just last week, a friend and mentor of sorts of mine, Roy G Biv, was giving me some nifty pointers and advice.  I made sure I took action that very night on the two things he had taught me.

If I had waited, they would have become just some other cool ideas that never saw the light of day.

Every time I learn a new Mind Map technique or style of writing or exercise, I teach them or put them to use in the very next session.

Teaching is the greatest learning tool we have.  Teaching is how you implement.

Teaching will cement ideas into your nervous system in ways that mere comprehension never can and never will.

Comprehension is what everyone does.  No one retains much these days.  Be different, start retaining the lessons you are learning in life.

In December’s Mind Map workshop, I am going to be teaching YOU some very cool things that you will implement the very same night to understand your brain more and to unleash some hidden powers within that you never knew you had.  You can register for one of the 6 spots here: http://kylenewell.com/december

Don’t be a Sheeple, Don’t You Dare Fall for the Aerobic Fallacy

Don’t be a Sheeple, Don’t You Dare Fall for the Aerobic Fallacy

It’s Sunday, which means as you read this, I am out on my weekly hike with Suzy, Munchie, Dax and Mateena.

And do you know why we go every Sunday morning?

Because we love it!  In refreshes our minds and spirits and to us, it’s not forced exercise.

So many people fall into the trap of traditional thinking.  In the fitness world, that means that they ‘have to, must, need to’ do 30 minutes of ‘cardio’ at the gym.

Despite the fact that they hate it and find no pleasure in using an elliptical for 30 minutes to an hour.

The brain can’t and will not form habit around stuff it doesn’t find pleasurable.

Will power is ‘anti-habit’.  (This is fact, not my opinion).

Unless you absolutely love cardio as you know it, the today, I am your savior.

I was going through some very old articles that I had written for a book project I was hired to help with and I came across the infamous ‘Aerobic Fallacy’ article that I wrote in 2008.

Be prepared to leave your cardio beliefs behind.

You can read the entire article over at the NS website. http://www.newellstrength.com/the-aerobic-fallacy/

Let me know what ya think.
