The 5 Things You Can Learn From the Corona Situation

Last week when I was pondering what to talk about on my podcast, it hit me.

 

We are living through one of the greatest times for learning and growth this very second. 

 

Yet, most people are not paying attention to that reality and that opportunity.  

 

It’s easy to get caught up in the negative.  It’s easy to become depressed right now. It’s easy to become a lazy Homer Simpson because ‘it’s just not fair’. 

 

I promise you that one day you and I will look back upon this and marvel. 

 

Some will wish they had seized the opportunity within the chaos. 

 

Some will come out of it transformed.

 

Each day this week I will be bringing one of the five areas of growth to get and learn from this situation.

Your Health

 

Right now, your health is your saving grace; in many ways.

 

We know that this virus primarily is a threat to those that are elderly and those that have immune compromised conditions.  Yes, I know that there have been outlier cases, but 99.99% of the time, if you have health and fitness on your side, you will fall into the 80% of cases that have mild to no symptoms. 

 

And if you don’t have health on your side, then let this be a wake up call. 

 

Yes, you can have all the excuses in the world, but the timing is never going to be perfect and if a world-wide lock down isn’t your A-HA moment, then you need to check your priorities. 

 

Living a healthy life is a choice. 

 

So is living an unhealthy lifestyle. 

 

If you don’t know where to start, then hire a Coach. 

 

 

If you do live a disciplined lifestyle focused on physical fitness, then keep it up.  DO NOT let it slide just because you can’t get to the gym. Now is the time that your family and loved ones need you to be at your best.

 

Working on your physical fitness is the doorway to mental toughness.

 

Physical fitness is one of the key regulators of your mood and attitude. 

 

You can simply choose to begin.

 

Or you can commit to never stop. 

 

And if you need help, just ask, that’s what we are here for:).

1- The Fat Shredder is coming!  Realistically it’ll probably start at some point in the backside of May and run until the 4th of July weekend.  Here’s all you have to do for now: start thinking of your teammates. Each team will have at least a member, non-member and one woman (teams of 3).  It’s gonna be epic and just what we all need at that time:)

The External Cannot Defeat Your Internal

My professor at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has often told me, ‘you only lost if you don’t know why you lost’.

 

External circumstances can win the battle, but they can only beat you in the overall war if you allow them.

 

If you refuse to learn from them and decide to pass off your power to circumstances, you will be defeated.

Free Advice from a Fox

Pat Fox, aka Splinter (because of his wise ways, like Splinter, the mentor to the Ninja Turtles), came to Newell Strength 11 months ago.

We have featured him a few times but his story just keeps getting better and better.

In fact, he was on my team this past weekend down the shore.  Think about that, when he came in, he would be the first to tell you that there was no way he would’ve thought that he would be able to do the Warrior Challenge in less than a year’s time.

So, what free advice does this Fox have for you?

‘I always get to where I am going by walking away from where I’ve been’. (Ok, that’s actually Whinnie the Pooh), but that is what Mr. Fox has done.

He has walked away from his old habits one step at a time and when he does slip up (we all do), he remembers that it’s about progress, not perfection.

My Chest Got Stomped On!

For my birthday weekend, 4 weeks ago, Devon and I went to see our buddy Petey so I could get some new birthday ink.
I now have the exact copy from the baby book of each child’s footprint on my chest, nearest my heart.
So, yes, my chest got stomped on in a spiritual way:)
Anyhow, Petey is a man of wisdom and always seems to say something that resonates with me.
From this particular trip he gave me the great reminder that I am always to trying to remind you of, about how everything in life is about creating more happiness.  That’s all our brain craves.
To see if you are on track, ask yourself, ‘Is this particular path making me more or less happy?’
It was something Devon and I were pondering on our ride over there.
The universe is amazing in how it sends us messages at the exact right moment.

Fatigue Made a Coward of Me

When I first heard Vince Lombardi’s famous quote some 15 years ago, it stuck with me.
‘Fatigue makes cowards of us all’.
And if you read my email from Monday, you know the main reason behind why I set my summer fitness goal.  It has paid off handsomely but that doesn’t mean there have been some bumps in the road as far as my mindset.
A few weeks in, with broken up sleep and lack of sleep, my mind wanted to slip back to thinking about it was about how I looked (damn EGO).
This was a cowardly way to think.  My family doesn’t care what I look like as long as they have a fun, happy, energetic daddy at home.
To make it about how I look is selfish and I am lucky Devon can always guide me and Coach me through times when fatigue grabs a hold of my mindset.
Listen, fatigue will make a coward of you at some point this week or next.  What are you going to do about it?

The Wonderful Story of Gabby

Gabby was the Hillsborough member of the month for July, yes, I know I am a little behind:)
Both of Gabby’s parents began training with us a year or so before they brought her in.
And when Gabby came in, she laid out her goals and I am happy to say she has smashed them out of the park!
Her physical transformation has been inspirational but more importantly her confidence is soaring.  And in life, all we all want more of is confidence and energy (both lead to happiness), right?
