Fear (6)

Free Fear or Freedom Over Fear?

When I was 7, I had the stark reality of a childhood friend dying.  It was almost too much for me to comprehend and it put me into a hyperfocus on death for the next several years.

But believe it or not, I think that this gave me a big advantage in life.

For one, I live with urgency, because I know life is not infinite, at least this ‘5-sense’ reality isn’t.  Now, I don’t live with urgency in the sense that I am hurried, I live with urgency in that I want to experience a lot and achieve my mission.

Secondly, I have been able to connect the dots with death to my mastery of Mind Mapping and I realize that although fear is a real feeling, I can usually tamp it down until the point of acting in the face of it and not backing down when it wants to look me in the eyes.

The mainstream media sells you ‘free fear’.  They know the brain is hyper focused on all things fear so it drives ratings.  The question is, are you going to choose free fear or freedom over fear?

It’s a matter of focus and attention.

Tank Was Bitten Three Times in a Week

Two Sundays ago, Devon was on a river trip with Brax.  I was home, Emma was napping, so Tank and I went out to do some lawn cutting and yard work.

While I was cutting the grass, he was searching for bugs, his favorite pastime.

I stopped to hear what he was trying to tell me and it was: ‘Dad, there’s a bumblebee!’

He went to pick up it up and bam!  Sucker stung him.  It wasn’t a bumblebee, it was a wasp.  His finger swelled pretty good and he left the stinger in until Suzy’s gentle touch got home.

Anyhow, about 2 hours later, Devon was home, so Brax and Tank and myself went over to our neighbor’s to do some target practice.  Not more than 20 minutes there and Tank gets bitten on his shoulder by our neighbor’s dog.  It was over the shirt, but a nasty bite.

Poor kid, but he rebounded within a minute, no more tears.

Finally, he was bitten by a black beetle a few days later.

And the moral?  He still has no fear of the aforementioned critters/dog.  Fear is what might go wrong in the future.  Kids live in the NOW.

It’s a beautiful thing.

It’s Time For You to Look the Dragon in the Eye

In today’s episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I discuss the concept of examining your true fears, looking the dragon in the eye and not backing down.

The thought process in this episode is interesting as it was pretty much when I decided we were going to open the gym on 5/18, despite the fear on multiple levels.

You can take a listen here: www.newellstrength.com/single-post/2020/06/16/Its-Time-For-You-to-Look-the-Dragon-in-the-Eye

Fear Attracts Like Energy

Over the past month, I have been reviewing and going over my notes from the book, Conversations with God.

The book examines energy and fear and such.

One of the 3 laws in the book is that fear attracts like energy.

Huh?

People don’t realize that their thoughts are magnetic and have literal energy frequencies.

Ever wonder why some people seem to have a black cloud following them around?

Your thoughts lead to your actions and your words.  The clearest example that I have thought of recently about words having energy is music.

Notice how your favorite song makes you feel or how angry music can make you angry and change your mood.

If your dominant thought is one of fear, be mindful of it and then begin to change your inner dialogue.

Can You Look Fear in the Eye?

Two weeks ago, I embarked on the craziest week of my life.

I am currently making it into a short 20 page book and possibly a documentary at some point in the next year.

Anyhow, before the week began, I received a text from a friend and client that said, ‘I admire what you are doing, looking fear right in the eye and not flinching….’

That was a jolt of energy that I needed on Sunday the 17th.

And look, your fears will be different than my fears and this lesson about fear isn’t just about how we opened up Newell Strength with the government’s approval (amazing how it came about).

The point is, when you feel fear, that usually means you are heading in the right direction.

The problem is, when you feel it, look it in the eye and then retreat back into your comfort zone, never having gone through the transformational process of going head first into the resistance you feel.

Lessons are everywhere, if you are paying attention.

P.S-We are ready to start forming and shaping the Shredder.  It will be different this year, but we are going to make it work.  We are taking x amount of teams, here’s the breakdown.  The contest begins on….

What’s Scarier, Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger or Staying ‘Fat’?

What’s Scarier, Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger or Staying ‘Fat’?

It’s Monster Mash Day.

And that means that as I write this I am listening to the ‘Monster Mash’ on and endless loop.

You do know that I love Halloween, right?

Little Mikey Myers was compared to the boogeyman in the original ‘Halloween’ movie.  He was an unstoppable force that came back to finish a job.

Freddy, my first horror movie hero, would actually haunt you in your dreams.

You weren’t safe when you were asleep and then he figured out how to come to the reality dimension, which meant you weren’t safe anywhere.

Scary dudes to say the least.

But are they really as scary as staying ‘fat’?

I put fat in parentheses because it doesn’t mean fat as you know it.  Yes, you may be overweight or maybe your energy is terrible.

It doesn’t matter.

We all have our own version of what it feels like to be ‘fat’.

And the thing that’s holding you back is fear.

Fear of change.

Fear of the unknown.

Fear of disrupting your current lifestyle routine.

Fear of the lack of a plan.

Go back to what old Ben did in an earlier email from this week; simply make a list of what you need to do to start.

Now, I’ll admit that going into an unknown environment (a new gym) can be scarier of all the horror movie characters put together.

You aren’t sure if the people will be nice.  You aren’t sure of what to do.  Heck, you may not even be sure of where the bathrooms are or how to sign in.

There are just so many things that can cause us to go into a feeling overwhelm.

Here’s your chance to just be pleasantly whelmed, not over, not under, just whelmed.

Check out our Fall Sweepstakes, the chance to win 5 FREE week of personal training and more with us at Newell Strength.

We eliminate all the unknowns and we will coach you through every step of the way.

There’s only 10 days left until we close the doors.
