Monday Morning Mindset: Your Pain

In the spring of 2007, I walked into my grandmother’s nursing home and told her goodbye.

 

No, it wasn’t her time to pass, but I was embarking on my 4 month journey to get ready for that spring’s bodybuilding competitions and I was adamant that I would not let any negative forces into my world.

 

So, that meant that for that period of time, I would not have contact with her.  I know it sounds terrible now, but you see, my grandmother (a great lady), could be a complainer at times.

 

In fact, in addition to her, I also cut off one of my best friends for that period of time because he too, would infuse negative words into my head.

 

In life, you need to know when it’s time to stop verbalizing your pain.  Your words and thoughts are like a radio frequency that will attract back exactly the messages you are sending out.

 

Allow a small period of time to vent your frustrations and then drop them, they  aren’t serving you.

 

Do  you want to be the victor or the victim in life?

Yes, Sometimes I’m and Idiot

I am just like you in that not everyone likes me. Yes, that’s the sad truth of the matter.

 

It’s the way life is.

 

Some would even say I am an idiot, but that’s okay, because what other people think of me is none of my business.

 

Yet, I’d say I am an idiot some of the times for a very specific reason….

 

When I try to do more than one thing at a time.  Usually this is work/creation related, but nonetheless, when we try to focus on more than one thing, we burn tremendous energy and rarely get anything done.

Multi-tasking is a MYTH.

 

So, the question you have to ask yourself is; what’s the one thing that you need to wrap up, focus on and complete next?

 

And then stay on that thing until it’s done.

What You Focus On Expands

Have you ever tried not to think about something?

 

If you have, you will know that you tend to wind up thinking about the thing more.  That’s because your brain doesn’t hear the word no, don’t, etc.

 

By trying not to focus on something, you are actually drawing attention to it.

 

And what you focus on expands.

 

Here’s a little thought: your focus and attention are driven by the quality of the questions you ask yourself constantly.  Most people aren’t conscious of the questions they run on a loop through their head.

 

But rest assured, we are always focusing on something, which means we are always having default questions playing in our head.  The problem with that is that we are hard-wired for the negative.

 

Start with this premise and create it into your own question that you write down once in the morning and once at night until it becomes automatic in your head: ‘What’s great about this current situation?’

The Amazing Megosaurus

A few weeks ago, my parents got tickets for all the grandkids to go see the Monster Wheels Monster Truck show.

 

Last year, we took Brax by himself, this year, Colty was old enough to come.

 

During the show, they brought out this 20-foot Megosaurus Monster that spit fireballs and chopped a car in half with it’s gigantic teeth.

 

It was pretty awesome and the boys sat there with mouths agape.

 

The really cool thing is that this Megosaurus was created out of someone’s imagination.  Yup, most people don’t realize that things just don’t materialize.  All things first start as a thought.

 

Then it’s up to you to decide if you are going to take action on it.  The thing is that most people’s ideas never make it out of their brains and into the real world.

Casey and I grew up together.

 

In fact, there is an old Little League photo of us hanging up in the Hillsborough Newell Strength when we were 11-12 years old.

 

Casey has gone on to great things, but one of the things I admire most about him is his ability to find harmony in his life between being a husband, great dad, varsity football Coach and an individual.

Member Showcase: From Nervous to SuperWoman

I remember the very first time that Linda walked in to Newell Strength.

 

She happened to come by during a very busy athlete training session, which meant there were primarily big, strong dudes everywhere.  Add to the fact that Newell Strength is in a warehouse and she simply couldn’t get her head around this place being a fit for her.

 

She had to think about it.  However, Coach Dana reached out and was able to calm her fears and get her to commit to just 30-days.

 

Welp, that was 3 years ago.  Linda is one of the great success stories of Newell Strength.  She feels better, has lost a ton of weight and has become an important part of the Newell Strength community.

Geoff, the BadA&& Lawyer

I can remember the first time Geoff ever came to Newell Strength back in 2012. He came to try it out with long time member, Frank.

Geoff was busy, having his own law firm, but he was going to be getting married and wanted to be in the best shape that he could possibly be.

He achieved that and as life happens, he stopped for a period of time with us at Newell Strength.

But then, after having kid #2, Jackson, he decided that he, being an older dad, needed to make his own fitness and health a priority.

So, he started back up and he is on fire. He makes it in at 5 or 6 am before his busy day with family and business starts. And as you’ll see in the video, little things like playing with the kids on the floor and then getting up, 20 times per night, have become easy.
