Way Back Wednesday Testimonial: Aaron Bergman

Would you believe it? I dug up some footage of Aaron from when he first started training with Newell Strength, at the time, Champion’s Choice Personal Training, in the PIT from 2011.

 

Yup, this is over 8 years old!

The External Cannot Defeat Your Internal

My professor at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has often told me, ‘you only lost if you don’t know why you lost’.

 

External circumstances can win the battle, but they can only beat you in the overall war if you allow them.

 

If you refuse to learn from them and decide to pass off your power to circumstances, you will be defeated.

The Benefits of a Flexible ‘Diet’

Two weeks ago, I was invited to a Yankees game with a great friend of mine.

 

He got us box seats and it was quite a treat, all inclusive.

 

The spread was amazing and you better believe I went up 3, maybe four times!

 

And normally during my regular routine week, I don’t have dessert during the week.

 

But this was a special occasion and life is to be enjoyed.

 

Plus, with fasting, I have all the flexibility in the world.  Even if I ‘go off course’, I am not gonna get out of shape with just one meal.

 

With that in mind, I piled up some cookies and put some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream right on top.

 

Fitness is to enhance your life, not become your life.  I’ve deprived myself and learned the hard way in the past….

 

Enjoy the special experiences of life and realize that flexibility is key to any long term success.

The Power of Your Mind

I can literally recall when I was 10 years old and being fascinated by the human mind.  That’s how far back my passion for studying Mind Map goes, heck, I was probably born with this fascination in ‘mind’.

 

Anyhow, last week, I was talking with Coach Aliyah and she asked if I had heard about two former Coaches that had gotten married.

 

I did indeed and not only that, Newell Strength was/is also the breeding ground for two other marriages, which brings our total up to 3.

 

Now, think about that for a minute.

 

I am in no way taking credit for those marriages, but all because I had a thought to turn my passion to personally train people into a reality, which led to Newell Strength, which led to 3 marriages.

 

Your thoughts have tremendous power.  Remember that…

Maritza the Magnifico

I first met Martiza quite a few years ago when her then 14 year old son, Lucas, began training with us (he is now 18).
And then, a little while after Lucas began training with us, his father, Jeff, began to train with us.
Jeff tried a few times to get Maritza to come to Newell Strength, but she wasn’t ready, as you’ll hear in her video.
When the student is ready….
I was shocked to see how far Maritza has come when I was editing this video.  It truly is amazing, not only physically, but in her confidence as well.

Discover Why Your Weeds Are Growing

We live back near a creek, essentially in what used to be an all-wooded area.

 

Needless to say, it’s a heck of a process to try and keep up with the weeds.  I do what I can but real weeds are nothing compared to the weeds that we allow to grow in our mindset.

 

Weeds aka worries, grow because we give them attention.

 

Your attention is like miracle grow for the weeds of worry.

Simply stop watering and giving attention to the weeds.  Yes, this is once again the power of reframing.  I talk about it so often because it is so super important.

 

When someone says, ‘The grass is greener on the other side’…..it’s only so because that is where they are putting their attention.

 

Remember, where you attention goes, energy flows and results will follow.

Some 8 plus years ago, I hired my very first Newell Strength intern, later to become a fixture, Gabe Lincoln.

Here’s How to Break a Tooth

Two weekends ago, we stayed with our dear friends Louie and Cynthia down at their shore house. This was the same weekend as the Warrior Challenge.

We love spending time with them because they are great role models for us and they never judge us, they know we are wacky and they support us in our craziness:).

Anyhow, on Friday night, Louie and I and Tank were having a beer and some peanuts (Tank was having orange juice haha) and I thought Tank had dropped one of the peanuts on the ground.

So, five second rule, I scooped it up and tossed it in my mouth.

Well, one bite and I quickly realized it was a white pebble stone. Mind you, I was in mid-conversation with Louie. I could either play it cool and swallow it or have a laugh about it.

I had a laugh about it and spit the rock out, like any sensible person would do.

My teeth are fine and the moral is, sometimes a peanut isn’t really a peanut. It’s what’s on the inside that really matters.

Are You the CEO of Your Life?

During the past month, I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time at home with our 3 kids.

And part of that has included a lot of early morning walks with Emma, in the darkness before dawn.

It’s usually during those times, that inspiration strikes me.

And one thing that I have been harping on as I recharged during the month of August was to get back to being the CEO of my life.

Think about all successful CEO’s: how do they present themselves? How do they talk?  How is their body language?  What does their morning routine look like?

Success leaves clues and whether you like it or not, you are the CEO of your life.
