Mindset Monday: One Thing to Kill Overwhelm

I can remember the day, 9 and a half years ago.

I went into my Principal’s office for some advice.  I just needed someone to listen.

I had a laundry list of things to do, my thesis for my master’s, I was getting ready to open the first facility for Newell Strength and the list went on.

There were way too many things and BIG things, that I became frozen.  Totally not like me, but it happens to me from time to time just as it does to you.

The thing with overwhelm is that we are focusing on  multiple things at once.

We can only do 1 thing at a time though.  Multi-tasking is a myth I will blow up in another email this week.

So, how do we gain clarity on that one thing?  You put pen to paper.  Writing and journaling is one of the best things we can do for clarity, vision and emotional health.

When we put pen to paper, we bring logic and the human brain back to the table and we slow down.  We quiet the ‘noise’, the headtrash as my good friend Vince calls it.

Give it a try, take out a pen tonight and start to write.  Aim for a paragraph and see what happens.

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

It’s Not What You Comprehend, It’s What You Retain

I am going to let you in on a little secret of mine.

But you have to promise not to tell anyone!

Ok, here it is:  when I learn something valuable, I teach it and implement it immediately, like that same day-immediately.

That’s it?

Yup, that’s it.  So many people go to seminars and learn and get all jazzed up but never take the shrink wrap off of their ideas.  They never implement.

Just last week, a friend and mentor of sorts of mine, Roy G Biv, was giving me some nifty pointers and advice.  I made sure I took action that very night on the two things he had taught me.

If I had waited, they would have become just some other cool ideas that never saw the light of day.

Every time I learn a new Mind Map technique or style of writing or exercise, I teach them or put them to use in the very next session.

Teaching is the greatest learning tool we have.  Teaching is how you implement.

Teaching will cement ideas into your nervous system in ways that mere comprehension never can and never will.

Comprehension is what everyone does.  No one retains much these days.  Be different, start retaining the lessons you are learning in life.

In December’s Mind Map workshop, I am going to be teaching YOU some very cool things that you will implement the very same night to understand your brain more and to unleash some hidden powers within that you never knew you had.  You can register for one of the 6 spots here:

Yoda, Einstein and Seinfeld

Yoda, Einstein and Seinfeld

What do these 3 characters have in common?

They all had a life philosophy to live by.

Yes, I know this is the second time this week we are talking about philosophy.

And in case you are behind, on Wednesday I wrote about my training philosophies.

Well, today my good friend, I am going to let you in on some of my life’s philosophies.

You know, as each year goes by, I get more and more confident.  Not arrogant, but SELF-confident.  After some reflection, I realize that is because my life philosophies are really becoming more ingrained and taking ‘root’.

I cannot state the importance of having a list of principals you live by.

I will not list them all here, but I will be covering this in much more detail in an upcoming podcast (you do realize I now have a podcast, right?:)).

Without further ado:

  • My mind must be nurtured each day through learning new things and connection with a higher power.  A weak mind equals a weak life.
  • I get final say of who I let into my life.  If someone drains me, they get banned from my life.  And no, this doesn’t have to be a confrontation.  I just cut off my life’s energy from them leeching off it anymore. I know who’s opinions to value and whose don’t.
  • Time is the most precious thing that I have, I must protect is like my life depends on it, because it does.
  • I cannot reason with emotion.  It’s a losing proposition.  Don’t offer up ‘coaching’ in any relationship in your life if the person doesn’t ask you for it.
  • Nearly any skill can be learned through repetition.  And repetition is what separates the successful from the tire-kickers.  Enthusiasm is easy, endurance is the hard part.

Wo-MAN, that is therapeutic just writing it out once again.  Give it a try.  I could go on forever, but my workout with the Wolverine is calling my name.

Be different.  Get clear on your philosophy.

How Jimbo CR Escaped His Golden Handcuffs

My friend Jimbo CR just made a BOLD decision.

He is leaving his corporate job of 10+ years to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

Jimbo CR has a family, a mortgage and very little time.

So when we were having a (very) early morning coffee recently, he asked for my opinion on what he should do.

Did I tell him to say FU to his bosses and leave it behind? NOPE.

Did I tell him he’d be foolish to quit? NOPE.

I told him, “Whatever path gives you more energy when you think about, go that way”.

Many people would have told him he was crazy if they knew he was leaving his cushy job.

Heck, many people told me I was stupid, a moron, arrogant and more when I decided to resign from teaching.

But I knew my path because I knew where my energy was flowing.

This is Jimbo CR’s last week at his old job.  Will this path be easy?  No way.  Will there be struggle?  For sure!

However, I know he won’t regret this decision for one minute.

What are you scared of?

If you’d like to learn how to use your mind to put yourself in state to make a decision of this magnitude, then you’re gonna want to check out the November workshop that I am putting on (6 spots left):
