Boys and Their Tub Shenanigans

Two Fridays ago, Devon had a girls night planned which meant I was on full on dad duty.

 

After playing around in the cul de sac for quite some time, we came down to the front area and I made the boys dinner and we roasted some S’mores.

 

By this time, it was getting a little late and Emma was ready for her bath.  So, I got her in her bath and a short while later, the boys were ready for their bath.

 

In they went.

 

In the meantime, I got Emma in her PJs and began to feed her her bottle in the recliner.

 

This essentially meant that I was trapped.  I could hear the boys right behind me, giggling and making splashes.  I was expecting to see water everywhere once I was done feeding Emma.

 

Well, there was water and a whole lot more.  The boys decided to throw their clothes, toilet paper, towels and anything else they could get their hands on into the full tub.

 

The kicker was the toilet paper.  Wet toilet paper and a tub drain don’t mix.

 

To say I was annoyed would be an understatement.  I had to drain the tub by hand to take the drain apart and clean out the shredded TP.

 

After getting the boys down to bed, I chuckled and remembered one of my favorite ‘isms’; ‘If you’re going to laugh about it later, you mind as well laugh about it now’.

 

Very true.  Devon was teasing me about it all weekend too.  It’s the little moments that make the spice of life.

Do You Remember When…

I want you to think of the last time you faced adversity.
Your options were to let that seed grow into a garden of weeds or to reframe ‘it’.
Life is your classroom, learn from it.
In that moment, what could you take from the lesson that life was serving up?
If you just got hot and angry, you didn’t learn and surely that lesson will come your way again.
That is one of the patterns of life.
So, ask yourself, ‘what was great about that problem or the current challenge that I am facing?’

Everett Holt, Man on a Mission

Everett was quite literally the very first person to reach out to me way back before we opened in Flemington to inquire about membership.
He had been tipped off by a friend and was patiently waiting, even as had a delay to work through.
Yet, he kept in touch and stayed true to his word.  Which is why it is  so awesome to see that he was named member of the month in Flemington for the month of July!
Everett is a great father and husband and has made quite the physical and mental transformation.  We love having him as THE founding member in Flemington!

Amazing Discoveries From My Old Notebook

In my office shed, I have notebooks dating back a decade.
In those notebooks, I have notes from my thoughts, books, DVDs and seminars.  I was and remain a serious student of life and my craft.
I fully realize that the 10,000 hour rule does apply and I chuckle when people of the next generation think they can short cut their way to world class expertise.

What Are You Training For?

Emma Taylor was born roughly a month ago at this time.
And being that she was our third child, I had an idea of what was to come.
Which is why my fitness goal for the prior 90 days was to be in the best dad shape that I have ever been in.
I knew that my energy was going to have to be supreme, which was why I was aiming to get my body fat and weight to a certain range.
Yet, it is easy to slip into the external measurement game.  Our intentions can morph into what we perceive other people will think of how we look or what they will think of our numbers and so on.
As long as I have been in this game, it still tries to sneak up on me, despite my awareness of it.
Listen, you train for life.  You need to have the energy and confidence to show up however you need to show up to be your best self at home, in your relationships and at work.
If something, your program, is detracting and taking you down the wrong path and your energy is suffering, then you are on the wrong path.
Remember, the purpose of any goal is to increase your level of happiness.  And part of being happy is having great energy.
Lastly, no one cares what you look like! So stop trying to convince yourself that that is your real motivation.  Do some soul searching….
