I Bought These By Mistake

In our monthly Costco Trip last month, I bought us a nice batch of grapes.

That night, I remember it being a Friday, Suzy was getting the boy’s dinner ready and part of that was to have some grapes on the side.

She informed me that she was taking the seeds out for the boys.

I didn’t realize there was such a thing, since I have only eaten seedless grapes before.

Well, I am eating them nonetheless.  If it grew from Mother Earth, it’s good for you.

And the other lesson is to pay attention to the details when applicable.

Good is good enough, but remember to pay attention to the details.

The Lemon Eater

A few weeks ago at a Halloween festival, they were giving out this sugar lemon things.  Basically they stick a sugar straw into a lemon and you get to enjoy.

And it was pretty sweet.

Tank was having one but once he got to the end of the straw he began trying to gnaw on the lemon, which I couldn’t imagine would taste to good.  And then my sister in law Lynne informed me that she eats lemons all the time, just like you or I would eat an apple.

I had never heard of such a thing.  But i made me realize that some people like sweet, some like sour and some like bitter.

The late, great, Charles Poliquin would always tell us at workshops that your food preferences could tell us a lot about a person’s metabolic profile.

Nonetheless, you need to make sure that the food plan you follow allows you to eat foods you like.  Otherwise, you are on a ‘diet’ and diets don’t work!  (Nutritional principles do work, remember, it has to be functional and sustainable).

Who Are You Racing With?

I first read the Ghandi quote, ‘There is more to life than simply increasing its speed’ about 10 years ago.

It resonated with me.

I often sit back and observe the way people operate with frantic energy, as if each thing and each day is a race.  Frantic energy will only lead to more frantic energy.

Calm and serene energy will produce a calm and serene mind, which will make life have a beautiful flow.

We need to realize that life isn’t a race, it’s a marathon that doesn’t end.

And when it is final, you know what that means, right?

It’s time to start pondering these types of thoughts, each day that goes by is a day we cannot get back.

It’s The Very Last Day of This Year Which Means…

It’s NYE.

It’s the end of one year and the cusp of a new year.

LIfe is moving by whether you realize it or not.

Time will stand still for no one.

You are either going to be excited about 2017 or you are going to be ‘blah’.

Where are you going to place your focus this coming year?

In a recent recording of the ULYIS podcast, I used this quote from James Patterson:

“Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls…are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”

There is more to life that work.  You cannot get back precious moments missed with loved ones.

The key is finding out how to achieve professional success without dropping the glass balls.

I have a system that works for me, which I developed after years of struggling with this.  And I’d tell you my system but I want you think about this for you.  It will ‘stick’ more if you develop it for  your own unique needs.

I’ll leave you with a hint.

Don’t think perfect balance all the time, rather, think counterbalance.

Happy New Year! -Kyle Newell
